The first of the "latecomers", though not really a newbie anymore, here's

BlueAngel's Top Ten

NOMINATIONS

"12:51" - The Strokes (2003): Good memories.

"Army of Me" - Bjork (1995): Not exactly typical Bjork but I like the quasi-industrial feel. Original audio (video link is a live version).

"Bittersweet Symphony" - The Verve (1997): Difficult to choose only one from this album let alone the group.

"Blue Monday" - New Order (1983)

"Can't Find My Way Home" - Blind Faith (1969)

"Cherub Rock" - The Smashing Pumpkins (1993)

"Clint Eastwood" - Gorillaz (2001): Brit-pop and hip-hop meet the Specials.

"Come Together" - Spiritualized (1997)

"Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" - The White Stripes (2001)

"Dress" - PJ Harvey (1992)

"Ex Lion Tamer" - Wire (1977): "Stay glued to your TV set!"

"Fake Plastic Trees" - Radiohead (1995): Transcendent.

"Fire and Rain" - James Taylor (1970)

"Fool's Gold" - The Stone Roses (1989): Classic Madchester.

"For No One" - The Beatles (1966)

"Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" - Elton John (1973): One of the first classic rock songs I ever remember hearing and liking.

"Galang" - MIA (2005)

"Galvanize" - The Chemical Brothers ft. Q-Tip (2005)

"Go With The Flow" - Queens of the Stone Age (2002)

"Guess I'm Doing Fine" - Beck (2002): Just sad.

"Hallelujah" - Kd Lang (2004): Beautiful cover of a beautiful song: "I've been here before, I've seen this room and I've walked the floor, I used to live alone before I knew ya, I've seen your flag on the marble arch, our love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah."

"Hell Is Around the Corner" - Tricky (1995): Relaxing.

"Helpless" - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (1970): (Couldn’t find a video of the original on YouTube, so I posted a good, live cover by Kd Lang, I think most are familiar with the original if not, here is an audio link .)

"Hurricane" - Bob Dylan (1976): A lyrical masterpiece and one of the best examples of Dylan amazing story-telling abilities. I love the compelling rhythm and the way the violin weaves throughout the song.

"I Won't Back Down" - Tom Petty (1989)

"In Your Eyes" - Peter Gabriel (1986): Great love song, I like the African-influenced rhythm.

"Lady Venom" - Swollen Members (1999): Despite their somewhat immodest name, they managed a fine hip-hop debut, Balance, with subject matter that would fit in Dark Ages Europe better than the 90’s gangsta scene.

"Live Forever" - Oasis (1994): Heartbreaking and defiant. First time I heard this I was sold.

"Lost In The Supermarket" - The Clash (1979)

"Man on the Moon" - R.E.M. (1992)

"Neighborhood #3 Power Out" - Arcade Fire (2004): "The power's out in the heart of man, take it from your heart, put it in your hand."

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" - The Band (1969): Great slice of Americana. "You take what you need and you leave the rest but they should never have taken the very best."

"Nothing Compares 2 U" - Sinead O'Connor (1990)

"Panic" - The Smiths (1986)

"Popscene" - Blur (1992): "Everyone is a clever clone a chrome covered clone am I. So in the absence of a way of life, just repeat this again and again... and again."

"Porcelain" - Moby (1999)

"Protection" - Massive Attack ft. Tracy Thorn (1994): Again, very tough choice. "I’ll stand in front of you, take the force of the blow".

"Redemption Song" - Johnny Cash ft. Joe Strummer (2003)

"Sabotage" - Beastie Boys (1994)

"Sinnerman" - Nina Simone (1965): A jazz cover of a traditional spiritual song. "Where you gonna run to?"

"Straight To You" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (1992): Quite romantic: "For the sea will swallow up the mountains and the sky will throw thunderbolts and sparks straight at you, but I'll come a-running straight to you but I'll come a-running one more time."

"The Rest of My Life" - Sloan (2003)

"The Wagon" - Dinosaur Jr. (1991): It was a toss-up between this and “Freak Scene†but I like this one a little better. "There's a place I go, but you're not there, and I'm supposed to know how to get to where you're gonna be."

"Transmission" - Joy Division (1979): Great summation of the basic power of music: "No language, just sound, is all we need know, to synchronise love to the beat of the show and we could DANCE!"

"Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix (1968)

"Wake Up" - Rage Against The Machine (1992): I reserve this smiley for RATM.

"When the Levee Breaks" - Led Zeppelin (1971)

"Woke Up This Morning" - Alabama 3 (1997): Perfect rhythm.

"You Know You're Right" - Nirvana (2002): At their punishing best.

"Ziggy Stardust" - Bauhaus (1982) Only just beat out “Hollow Hills and “Double Dareâ€.

Overall, an interesting mix of 50 songs. Ours will be somewhat reversed as you had more contemporary songs and my 50 (which I need to finish getting Grooveshark links for) is more pre-1979.

Don't think I haven't heard the songs I didn't know, I did... ;) Yet there are some all-time favorites of mine (some 6 or 7) so that' s the list...

I could have chosen 25...

Actually, now that I look at my list, I have 25 from 1950-1979 and 25 from 1980 to the present. So I guess I have a pretty even mix of the stuff I really like the stuff I think most of you would like more. I don't know. I weeded a lot of stuff out because I noticed I had 15 Pink Floyd songs originally and that's too freakin' much. LOL

One more thing.....does the list have to be alphabetized? Because mine isn't, it's actually in somewhat chronological order.

yes, kinda :)

if you don't submit it alphabetically, then we'll do it though - unless you explicitly don't want it to be posted like that...
