edna
I've heard no mention about our soccer team on the news at all, not even on sports networks. Nobody cares. You're wrong. The US team has participated in some of the last World Cups. Maybe nobody cares, as you mention, -I, personally, don't give a bleep about sports, not even soccer- but they did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_men's_national_soccer_team Pinkstones, you should use smilies from time to time... Farin
The only good white basketball players come from East Europe though. Dirk Nowitzki?
Farin
not only that - the whole World Cup was in the United States in 1994

BlueAngel
not only that - the whole World Cup was in the United States in 1994 Clearly not one of FIFA's better decisions.

phil
I admit I'm not a huge Soccer fan, but the World Cup is great event. Especially, When Italy wins it.

pinkstones
Most of the time, I forget they're even there. I don't see what smilies have to do with this anyhow. *shrugs* Anyway, I didn't say that our soccer team has done nothing of note, just that it's not really news or something of interest here. I don't even remember the World Cup being played here, and I doubt people who aren't hardcore soccer fans will either. That's just the way it is here. We have four major sports and two minor sports - golf and tennis. I think Tiger Woods has done a lot to raise golf's esteem outside of your traditional golf fanbase, but it's never going to be as big as it is other countries. The Seeker
An hour ago, Liverpool were playing Sunderland -- a Liverpool kid threw a balloon on the pitch, the ball bounced off it and completely confused the goalkeeper... 1:0 Video Really shouldn't have counted though. The Seeker
"The striker shot towards goal, but his effort hit a large red ball which had been thrown on to the pitch from behind Pepe Reina's goal, and the deflection completely wrong-footed the keeper, whose protests fell on deaf ears after referee Mike Jones had consulted his assistant." Farin
okay, I'll rephrase: no way should that be a regular goal I don't know the exact rules on such an event, but without it being hit it wouldn't have been a goal... I can't imagine that being regular
The Seeker
Apparently if a foreign object touches the ball, the game is stopped and a drop-ball is awarded.
Farin
yes, that makes sense... even though a drop-ball 2 metres from the goal wouldn't be a perfect solution for one of the teams either

BlueAngel
Poor Pepe. Definitely should have been disallowed, just bad luck for Liverpool, what are the odds of that kind of thing happening? Not that they were at their best especially without Torres and Gerrard.
