Farin Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 I didn't link him to any band - I just knew that he was a musician
blind-fitter Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 The Zombies "She's Not There" is a perfectly decent track, and I have nothing against it, but I tend to prefer the UK Subs version , because I'm just an old punk-rocker at heart.
blind-fitter Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 It's no secret around here or anywhere that I'm a huge Beatles' fan. Just re-read the thread and noticed this. Then recalled that my first two suggestions were both "covers that improved upon The Beatles". ...Unfortunate happenstance and nothing more. Honest.
Levis Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Now, I'm quite partial to Kraftwerk's original version of "The Model", ( I suppose, technically, the actual original was "Das Model"), but I'm also a fan of late 80s noiseniks BIG BLACK, and think their version is terrific. Surprised to find such an agreeable videoclip for it. "The Model" - Big Black I like it!
_Laurie_ Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I like "Call Me The Breeze" by JJ Cale...but Skynyrd kicks butt on that tune..... Lynyrd Skynyrd JJ Cale and Clapton :guitar:
Mars88 Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I like Nazareth's version of "Love Hurts" more than all the others who have covered it (as well as the original by the Everly Brothers).
skybluesky Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 The Graham/Emmylou version is my favorite "Love Hurts."
Farin Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I believe in Miracles ~ Pearl Jam (Ramones cover)
c_s_1987 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 A lot of people prefer various versions of "Hush" over the original. My favourite version is one that not many people will have heard before, by Somebody's Image, a band fronted by the great Australian singer Russell Morris.
neil Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 I'll go for Wilson Pickett belting out Hey Jude.
Uncle Joe Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 A lot of people prefer various versions of "Hush" over the original. My favourite version is one that not many people will have heard before, by Somebody's Image, a band fronted by the great Australian singer Russell Morris. By "original" are you referring to Joe South's version?
bluesboy Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Oh Man, I've been singing along to Conquest on the radio at work. White Stripes does an excellent cover of a tough song to do. Thanks Martin for posting that.
PriestofSyrinx Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Baby Please Dont Go... Big Joe Williams (original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thFoVNPMXr8&feature=related Van Morrison/Them (The most original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDjmDu0XWsk AC/DC (My faavorite) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VlRUIHwygc
TheLizard Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 The Camper Van Beethoven cover of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" is better than the original Status Quo version, imo.
Lucky Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Guess Who ... Who ? Johnny Kidd & The Pirates I nominated this for the Ten this week. It's been done by others as well. I had a hard time deciding which to use.
edna Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 I love The Lords of the New Church ´s cover of "Let´s Live For Today" - Grassroots and The Walkers singing "Oh, Lonesome Me" and Elvis covering Dylan´s "Tomorrow is a Long Time"
Farin Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 The Camper Van Beethoven cover of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" is better than the original Status Quo version, imo. I wanna listen
