RonJonSurfer Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 My nephew got a Merit Award because he's such an awesome cop. Is there a merit award for having an awesome aunt? If so, he would get another one.
Shawna Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Is there a merit award for having an awesome aunt? If so, he would get another one. yeah, my brother's wife is pretty awesome.
bluesboy Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Santa Ana winds are bringing record hot temperatures here at the beach in San Diego... 84 today and 91 tomorrow!
Shawna Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 just discovered Isotonoer "cabana" shoes. They're super fluffy, super cushy indoor flip flops. My feet are happy.
pinkstones Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 Adam Yauch had a park named after him in Brooklyn today. Did my heart proud.
Shawna Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 transcribing an interview today, I learned a new word that's really fun and almost musical sounding. onomatopoeia n. The formation or use of words such as buzz or murmur that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to. :partytime1: :haveabeer:
RonJonSurfer Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 I learned that word in fourth grade. Along with several others I bet....
RonJonSurfer Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Suck my.... oh, never mind. that's so 4th grade...
edna Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 transcribing an interview today, I learned a new word that's really fun and almost musical sounding. onomatopoeia n. The formation or use of words such as buzz or murmur that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to. :partytime1: :haveabeer: It's a very common word in French or in Spanish. It's even on the crosswords (I hate crosswords, by the way. But I love the word onomatopée (french) and onomatopeya (spanish) English is the most rich language in this field.
Steel2Velvet Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 I learned that word in fourth grade. Perhaps as a result of your teacher desiring to comment - in an educational manner - upon your propensity to burp in class.
Jenny Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 My daughter comes home from school and said she learned about The Beatles in music class. She tells me "two are alive and two have passed on. One of the dead ones was shot by a guy who went all cray-cray in the head". I was torn between laughing at how she explained it or crying for her using the word "cray-cray".

Reminds me of the srory of a fourth grader who comes home from school and asks her mom, "Did you know that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"
Shawna Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 sitting in the bedroom of my parents' house where I grew up, I've got the double doors thrown open to the garden that Mom has nurtured so beautifully, the birds are singing, the only traffic noise seems from far away, the view is gorgeous... it makes working seem like a visit to the park.
Shawna Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 once again, in my old bedroom with the double doors open to enjoy the great weather. Someone in the neighborhood is playing a flute that's at just the right audible level right now to sound like background music, it's lovely.
Shawna Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 same old bedroom, same doors thrown open for the gorgeous weather. While I'm sitting here.. working... I see something creep by the door and get up to check it out. It's a weasel! right outside the door! Beautiful little thing, fox-red in color with a black tip on its tail. I thought it was a ferret, but it was a weasel. And it popped straight up in the air when it saw me and took off like a shot into the garden. What a fun random thing to happen.
Shawna Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 it did! And that's exactly what I thought of when I saw it. It was a cute little creature.
Zabadak Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 It could've bit you in the... parlour? :cuttie:
Shawna Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 nawww... it ran away too fast. I've never seen a weasel before (at least not in the true 4-legged variety), I had to look it up online to identify it, even. Knowing how cute they are, I will never again degrade them by comparing them with a despicable human being.
