Tenacious_Peaches
"Stevie Wonder's instantly recognizable voice and masterfully melodic harmonica playing have been the hallmark of his sound throughout the many stages of his musical career. From his pop ballads in the early '60s to his keyboard-orientated, soulful explorations in the '70s, Wonder has always maintained an air of integrity and spirituality. Not to mention that this is also the guy who wrote "Superstition," probably one of the funkiest ditties ever written. Discovered by Ronnie White of The Miracles in 1961, young Stevie was signed to a recording contract and marketed as the "12-year-old genius" after the huge success of "Fingertips (Part 2)." Wonder lived up to that reputation for two decades with hits like "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," "My Cherie Amour," "Sir Duke," and dozens more. In the '80s, he attracted a whole new generation of fans with hits like "Part-Time Lover" and "I Just Called To Say I Love You." taken from askmen.com I have loved Stevie Wonder for as long as I can remember. He is an amazing keyboard player, songwriter and singer. He is probably one of the most famous harmonica players around. His songs have the ability to touch all of us, regardless of what genre of music we prefer. This lyric from "Sir Duke" sums up how I feel about all of you fellow songfactors... Music is a world within itself With a language we all understand With an equal opportunity For all to sing, dance and clap their hands Discuss... :: Daniel, I adore you! cosmosis
I love 'Golden Lady'. Smooth pianos with a bad-ass beat. Also 'Another Star' with it's 70s afro-cuban rhythms. And let's not forget about 'Superstition'. I have to listen to some more stuff by him. Everything I own by him I love so far.

chimpevil
Peaches, excellent words about Stevie (and look at my signature!) Well, I'm only 25 but my Uncle Leon, who educated me about music and continues to this day, is like a Stevie Wonder expert. He said a lot of people overlook Music of my Mind when they talk about his great albums--on it he played almost every instrument, and Unc Lee always says this is his most 'soulful' record--Superwoman, which is on there, is one my alltime faves by him, and is one of those songs that'll just about melt your heart, and I Love Everything About You is all that too. (Hey I know why don't we all chip in an get sweet peaches a Stevie box set for Xmas! )

You and Unc Lee are right on time. Music of My Mind is a masterpiece, so is Stevie. While it wasn't received as well as Talking Book, it grew on me, especially Sweet Little Girl. Hard to believe he was only 21 at the time.
Foxy
Stevie Wonder is one of the most soulful singer/songwriters in history IMO I love 'Lately' and the very funky 'Superstition'
Tenacious_Peaches
I'm dusting Stevie off and bringing him back to the front of the line. Don't you love it when I mix metaphors? Anywho, Stevie is speaking to me today. I've got my Launchcast station on and I've heard 4 songs by him today. I just listened to "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing", which is from my favorite Stevie album "Innervisions". The lyrics seem appropriate to me right now. Everybody's got a thing But some don't know how to handle it Always reachin' out in vain Accepting the things not worth having but Don't you worry 'bout a thing Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama Cause I'll be standing on the side. Peace and love, y'all.
daslied
Stevie and The Beatles are the only two people I will never allow anyone to make fun of. I think he has to be the most complete pop musician in history, with the vocal, piano and songwriting skills he has. "You And I", "They Won't Go When I Go" and "I Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer" are possibly the most soulful ballads that will ever be written. His pre-80's output more than makes up for "Part-Time Lover" and "Don't Drive Drunk".
Batman
This is an incredibly vague description, but what is that funky Stevie Wonder song where the second half of the first line is something like "in hot town mississippi" and the chorus ends something like "for the city." MarcM
Living for the City, off of "Innervisions." A boy is born in hard time Mississippi Surrounded by four walls that ain't so pretty His parents give him love and affection To keep him strong moving in the right direction Living just enough, just enough for the city...ee ha! His father works some days for fourteen hours And you can bet he barely makes a dollar His mother goes to scrub the floors for many And you'd best believe she hardly gets a penny Living just enough, just enough for the city... yeah! His sister's black but she is sho'nuff pretty Her skirt is short but Lord her legs are sturdy To walk to school she's got to get up early Her clothes are old but never are they dirty Living just enough, just enough for the city...um hum Her brother's smart he's got more sense than many His patience's long but soon he won't have any To find a job is like a haystack needle Cause where he lives they don't use colored people Living just enough, just enough for the city... Living just enough... For the city... ooh, ooh (Repeat several times) His hair is long, his feet are hard and gritty He spends his life walking the streets of New York City He's almost dead from breathing in air pollution He tried to vote but to him there's no solution Living just enough, just enough for the city... yeah, yeah, yeah! I hope you hear inside my voice of sorrow And that it motivates you to make a better tomorrow This place is cruel no where could be much colder If we don't change the world will soon be over Living just enough, stop giving just enough for the city! La, La, La, La, La, La, Da Ba Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da
