Uncle Joe
I thought I'd already nominated here but apparently I did not. So, here's one I nominated tooday in the to ten #73 thread.... Danny's Song-Anne Murray She covers Kenny Loggins' original.
Jenny
Hard to Handle - The Black Crowes originally done by Otis Redding Somebody To Love - George Michael originally done by Queen. I don't know if this counts, because I don't remember if this was released as a single, but it was released as part of an EP.
miamisammy29
My noms: 1- "Hush" - Kula Shaker - original by Deep Purple. FYI: I'm surprised no one caught this. Actually, Deep Purple's version was also a cover. The original version was released by Billy Joe Royal in 1967, one year before Deep Purple's. The tune was written by Joe South, who is mainly known for his country/western songs.
Farin
hey, I didn't know that, thanks Sammy but since KS's version is far better than Deep Purples I think that it's miles ahead of a country version/original too (apologies to all Country fans )
TheLizard
Am I the only one left here that still prefers the Deep Purple version?

miamisammy29
Am I the only one left here that still prefers the Deep Purple version? If it's any consolation, I don't like either version. I don't like Royal's original, I don't like the other two groups' who released it before Deep Purple, and I don't like the 30 or so covers after Deep Purple. I always thought the song was quite overrated, and not a true Deep Purple tune. Sorry, Edna, but no vote from me for this one.
edna
Oh, don´t worry, sammy. I will cry for a while but then life will go on, you know...
Levis
I know the Deep Purple song is a cover of the Joe South song. However, the KS version is a cover of the Deep Purple song. That's why there's no need to post the very first person to have recorded the song as the 'original' version. Merely the one your nomination is credited to have covered. miamisammy29
My thoughts exactly, Edna. It's okay, I guess, but I was just never a big fan of it.

OLD 55
Funny, but I prefer an 1980 Australian cover by Russell Morris & The Rubes to all of those. Deep Purple next best.
Lucky
If it's come down to a vote on Hush, I vote Deep Purple!

OLD 55
Gee I learn a lot here. I didn't know the Deep Purple one wasn't the original Hush until Sammy told us ! Joe South wrote most of Billy Joe's Hits, including his biggest, 'Down In The Boondocks'. I haven't heard JOC's version though. :guitar:
