MindCrime Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Each sport has a different take on what form of slavery the owners impose of the players. I agree that's what it is
RonJonSurfer Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 In the old days there's many players who flourished their whole careers with one team. Each player as he reaches the time to sign a new contract or extension has to deal with the business part of his sport. Each sport has a different take on what form of slavery the owners impose of the players. In the old days, when an owner decided that a player was dispensable, sometimes that player needed the juice of playing elsewhere or for the money for another season or two. I do remember. Ralph Kiner was one of the great sluggers in baseball and has been a Mets announcer since 1962. (Ralph still does a few games each year and will turn 90 in 2012). Anyway, he played for the Pirates and the owner was Branch Rickey. After another year of leading the league in home runs and RBI's he went to Mr Rickey and asked for a $5000 raise to which Mr. rickey replied "We came in last with you, we can come in last without you". No raise! Things have changed, huh?
miamisammy29 Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I agree that's what it is SLAVERY?! ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME?! SOME OF THESE GUYS MAKE OVER 20 MILLION A YEAR! THESE ARE THE MOST PAMPERED PEOPLE THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN! THEY ARE AT THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE SLAVERY SPECTRUM! BUT THEY HAVE A JOB, JUST LIKE THE REST OF US (HOWEVER CUSHY IT MAY BE!). THEY CAN QUIT AND WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE IF THEY PREFER. IT GETS FRUSTRATING WORKING IN THE SAME PLACE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. THE DIFFERENCE IS, WE DON'T MAKE ANYWHERE NEAR 20 MILLION A YEAR. IF WE DID, WE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE TO MAKE OUR JOBS MORE ENJOYABLE BY PLAYING ON SONGFACTS 8 HOURS A DAY.
MindCrime Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Well so much for Green Bay's perfect season, I can't believe it was the Chiefs of all teams to do it though. If they had all their starters they probably would've won though.
MindCrime Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 You're just saying that because you're a Phins fan and don't wanna see their '72 record be overtaken.
miamisammy29 Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Exactly! I don't wanna see anybody go unbeaten ever again. Super Bowl prediction: New England 38 Green Bay 34
bluesboy Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 You're just saying that because you're a Phins fan and don't wanna see their '72 record be overtaken. I was at that Super Bowl game when Miami completed their perfect season against the Redskins.
phil Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Go Chargers. Super Bowl Prediction: Chargers - 45 Giants - 17
RockyRaccoon Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Go Chargers. Super Bowl Prediction: Chargers - 45 Giants - 17 Ha! Not with Norv at the helm. If there's anything I've learned about Norv Turner, it's that he will not miss an opportunity to disappoint you.
bluesboy Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Well now, Looks like SC has their swagger back for 2012.
Steel2Velvet Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Wow! In a college football season punctuated by memorable 4th quarter chokes, Notre Dame may have saved their best example for tonight's Champs Sports Bowl. Florida State was not good enough to win that game.
phil Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 This is my updated Super Bowl prediction. NY Giants - 17 Baltimore Ravens - 10
MindCrime Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I'm thinking Packers 35 vs Patriots 21, same score & teams as Super Bowl 31 in '97, when Favre was the QB.
TheLizard Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Wow! In a college football season punctuated by memorable 4th quarter chokes, Notre Dame may have saved their best example for tonight's Champs Sports Bowl. Florida State was not good enough to win that game. Kill me.
phil Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Patriots and Packers? That's the easy, safe pick. Both of them have horrible defenses. I'm thinking upsets.
MindCrime Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Colts clinch the #1 pick, they're most likely going to take Andrew Luck, which means Peyton will be traded to another team in the future.
TheLizard Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Or he will retire before he breaks himself.
miamisammy29 Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Like N'Awleens? The team to watch out for?....Atlanta - they're loaded, and they're hot! Week 1 winners - Bengals, Steelers, Saints, Falcons At least the Dolphins did one good thing this year...they knocked the Jets right out of the Playoffs. Cool. Jets suck!
CanAm Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Super Bowl Prediction: Green Bay 31 Baltimore 20 My fallback position: New Orleans 34 Pittsburgh 17
CanAm Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 How about Matt Flynn's performance against Detroit? He's a backup on Green Bay but I'll bet Denver, Tampa Bay, KC or several other teams would love to have him as their starter. Tim Tebow has to be one of the worst QB's I've ever seen.
