golden_ann Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 And also, like if you are in your car, and the guy behind you is playing his radio, but all you can hear is the bassline, can you usually identify the song by it?By the way, it's hard for me to narrow any favorites down!
cosmosis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Freewill and YYZ by Rush Roundabout by Yes Money and Pigs by Pink Floyd Another One Bites The Dust by Queen
Aunt_Acid Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Roundabout by Yes has a kickin' bassline (In the beggining). So does Money by Pink Floyd. A lot of the earlier Floyd stuff had really cool basslines, like Lucifer Sam, and Interstellar Overdrive. The bassline to Echano by Chuck Mangione is also great. The bass riff (also played on sax) in Domino by Van Morrison is cool. Those are a few of my favorites. I'm sure I will think of more as time goes on.
cosmosis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Oh and 'One of this Days I'm gonna Cut You Into Little Pieces' by Pink Floyd
cosmosis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 A lot of the earlier Floyd stuff had really cool basslines, like Lucifer Sam, and Interstellar Overdrive. Man I love Lucifer Sam. I used to play it in a band (I was the bass player actually). We also used to cover that Stethoscope song which I loved to play too.
TheCyberdemon Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 "Manic Depression" has one of the best baselines ever, definitly Hendrix's best bass line. Pretty much every song by the Chilli Peppers has awesomely awesome bass lines.
Aunt_Acid Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 I forgot about Pigs!! I wasn't going to mention One Of These Days though because I said a lot of Pink Floyd stuff anyway. I love the part where it cuts in and out. Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk. Awesome song. I knew this kid who played the part of the masochistic patient in the play Little Shop Of Horrors, and everytime he would say Docter, he said it with this Jersey accent, and it sounded just like in Stethoscope when they are going "docta docta!"
In heaven Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 My Generation = The Who Anything by Bootsy Collins (wah-wah pedals on bass are cool)
miamisammy29 Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 "Live With Me", by the Stones. "The Real Me", by The Who "Stranger", by Jefferson Starship "Calling Dr. Love", by Kiss "Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)", by Neil Young
Elvish Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Day Tripper & Come Together- The Beatles (Paul McCartney) Touch of Grey - Grateful Dead (Phil Lesh)
cosmosis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Come Together- The Beatles Yes! That song was so ahead of it's time.
Aunt_Acid Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 I entirely agree about Come Together! Man, what a great song. I also really like the bassline to Wild Nights by Van Morrison.
MarcM Posted July 30, 2004 Report Posted July 30, 2004 I would also have to vote for "The Real Me." The whole Quadrophenia album is filled with unforgetable music. This album, for me, cemented John Entwistle as a bass god.
TheCyberdemon Posted July 30, 2004 Report Posted July 30, 2004 Cake's "Raceway" has one of the best bass lines ever.
DiggsUK Posted July 30, 2004 Report Posted July 30, 2004 'The Hunter' by Free. In fact almost any Free song. A much underrated band. Regards
Batman Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Cake's "Raceway" has one of the best bass lines ever. is that the one where he is saying "He's going the distance, he's going for speed?" Its a good riff! All Along the Watchtower is a good Hendrix bass riff, I think he actually did the bass on that song Money by Pink Floyd is my favorite though.

_Jayson_ Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 "Heard it on the X" by ZZTop has a cool bass line.
viewaskew37 Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 i think just about any chili peppers song has a rocking bass line cause flea is a golden god, just take around the world, or throw away your television, aeroplane, or the new unreleased song off there "new" mothers milk, ode to Kareem. Great freaking basslines
Carl Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 I think Flea does some of his best bass thumping on their cover of "Higher Ground." I'd like to add: "Rock Lobster" by The B-52s. Once that gets in my head, it clutches tight and won't let go. "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes. And they don't even have a bass player.
Uncle Joe Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 OK...now don't laugh. I always liked the base line in Crazy Elephant's, "Gimme, Gimme Good Lovin'".
_Jayson_ Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 "Tommy the cat" and "My name is Mudd" by Primus have some cool bass lines.
