PSYCHOcatholic
Okay, one time i was given a project from my youth minister, and i always used to come to you guys for help with that stuff. Im basically lookin for songs that are not exactly in the christian category. But, im looking for songs that have a religous feel by a non-religous singer i.e. Elton John, he doesnt write JUST christian music. So, big bands, little bands....just some songs that have a spiritual feel to it, and it doesnt have to be christian! I got an example! BRIGHT EYES LYRICS "When The President Talks To God" When the president talks to God Are the conversations brief or long? Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights And send poor farm kids off to die? Does God suggest an oil hike When the president talks to God? When the president talks to God Are the consonants all hard or soft? Is he resolute all down the line? Is every issue black or white? Does what God say ever change his mind When the president talks to God? When the president talks to God Does he fake that drawl or merely nod? Agree which convicts should be killed? Where prisons should be built and filled? Which voter fraud must be concealed When the president talks to God? When the president talks to God I wonder which one plays the better cop We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke That's what God recommends When the president talks to God Do they drink near beer and go play golf While they pick which countries to invade Which Muslim souls still can be saved? I guess god just calls a spade a spade When the president talks to God When the president talks to God Does he ever think that maybe he's not? That that voice is just inside his head When he kneels next to the presidential bed Does he ever smell his own bulls**t When the president talks to God? I doubt it I doubt it This song in no way sends a huge positive message, but it has a religous feel to it. I really need your help here guys! The Seeker
I did not know the Who were so religiously religously inclined... They weren't, it's just Pete Townshend. He follows Meher Baba and did a number (three or four, I think) of tribute albums for him. Oh, another one by the Who (and guess who wrote it): Bargain -- The Who I'd gladly lose me to find you I'd gladly give up all I had To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad I'd pay any price just to get you I'd work all my life and I will To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed I'd call that a bargain The best I ever had The best I ever had I'd gladly lose me to find you I'd gladly give up all I got To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop I'd pay any price just to win you Surrender my good life for bad To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man I'd call that a bargain The best I ever had The best I ever had I sit looking 'round I look at my face in the the mirror I know I'm worth nothing without you In life one and one don't make two One and one make one And I'm looking for that free ride to me I'm looking for you I'd gladly lose me to find you I'd gladly give up all I got To catch you I'm gonna run and never stop I'd pay any price just to win you Surrender my good life for bad To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man I'd call that a bargain The best I ever had The best I ever had I used to think that it's a kind of love song, but, well, it isn't. Not to a woman, in any case, but to God.

Shawna
Although I've never thought of it in religious context, there are some who feel that Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way" is about him speaking to God. You decide. I wonder how you're feeling. There's ringing in my ears. And no one to relate to, 'cept the sea. Who can I believe in, I'm kneeling on the floor. There has to be a force who do I phone. The stars are out and shining, but all I really want to know. Oh won't you... show me the way. I want you ...show me the way. Well, I can see no reason, You living on your nerves. When someone drops a cup and I submerge. I'm swimming in a circle. I feel I'm going down. There has to be a fool to play my part. Well someone thought of healing, but all I really want to know, Oh won't you show me the way (every day). I want you... show me the way. I want you... day after day. I wonder if I'm dreaming, I feel so unashamed. I can't belive this is happening... to me. I watch you when you're sleeping, and then I want to take your love. Oh won't you... show me the way (everyday). I want you... show me the way (one more time). I want you... day after day. Oh won't you... show me the way (every day). I want you... show me the way (night and day). I want you... day after day.

Otokichi
I see Jackson Browne hasn't been mentioned in spite of his very interesting songs. How about: "Doctor My Eyes" "Running On Empty" "Lives in the Balance" "The Barricades of Heaven" "The Rebel Jesus" and "The Next Voice You Hear" (Sorry if I've read something else into these songs, all I have is the compilation CD, "The Next Voice You Hear.") Then there's Don Henley, who visited "The Garden of Allah"

Ken
My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, And I Don't Love Jesus Jimmy Buffett My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus. It's that kind of mornin', really was that kind of night. Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin' and if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night. Went down to the snake pit, to drink a little beer. Listened to the juke box, oh, it's comin' in clear. All of a sudden I wasn't alone pickin' country music with old Joe Bones. Duval Street was rockin', my eyes they started poppin'! Because there she sat at the corner of the bar, as I broke another string on my old guitar. Someone call a cab. Lady won't you pay my tab? My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus. It's that kind of mornin', really was that kind of night. Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin' and if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night. Got to get a little orange juice, And a Darvon for my head. I can't spend all day, Baby, layin' in bed. I'm goin' down to Fausto's to get some chocolate milk. Can't spend my life in your sheets of silk I've got to find my way Crawl out and greet the day. My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus. It's that kind of mornin', really was that kind of night. Tryin' to tell myself that my condition is improvin' and if I don't die by Thursday I'll be roarin' Friday night.

PSYCHOcatholic
What are some of the big time artists religons? Do alot of them practice? For example, i believe Ozzy Osbourne was raised Catholic, but in his music, it doesnt seem that way. In fact, in his song Dreamer, he almost sounds like he is aetheist and has given up on God. Any thoughts?
TheLizard
Well Alice Cooper sings about "creepy" stuff, but he's a born again Christian. You can't nessecarily judge a person's beliefs by what they sing about. Plus, with Alice it's all a joke. He seems like the kind of guy it would be fun to hang out with. Ozzy... well I don't know if he even knows what he's singing half the time, anymore.
