Carl Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) Thanks for the invite - it's good to be the chief. A note on the Top-10 list: it's completely automated. The same songs do show up a lot, but that's because people discover the site and immediately look up "Stairway To Heaven." It's a great feature for the home page because it's hard to explain what Songfacts is about without checking out a song, and the list gets people clickin'. One thing that's kind of cool is watching a song someone sings on American Idol show up on the list the next day. Anyway, here's my list: 1) "Fever" - Peggy Lee 2) "Hey Ya" - Outkast 3) "Rosalita" - Bruce 4) "Move On Up" - Curtis Mayfield 5) "A Little Less Conversation" - Elvis 6) "Higher Ground" - Stevie Wonder 7) "Jesus, Etc." - Wilco 8) "Safe From Harm" - Massive Attack 9) "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" - Billy Joel 10) "Tiny Dancer" - Elton John Edited March 28, 2006 by Guest
Farin Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 1) "Locomotive Breath" ~ Jethro Tull 2) "Mighty Quinn" ~ Manfred Mann 3) "Highway Star" ~ Deep Purple 4) "Day after Day" ~ Badfinger 5) "My Sharona" ~ The Knack 6) "Let it be" ~ The Beatles 7) "Rock the Casbah" ~ The Clash 8) "Summertime" ~ Janis Joplin 9) "Take me out" ~ Franz Ferdinand 10) "Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm" ~ Crash Test Dummies

OLD 55 Posted March 28, 2006 Author Report Posted March 28, 2006 Thanks Chief I think you're being very diplomatic, putting on your own Top Ten. I won't tell the others you were going to put Runaway and What A Fool Believes at #1 and #2.
OLD 55 Posted March 28, 2006 Author Report Posted March 28, 2006 With only just over a third of the votes in, it's too early to call. Exciting, isn't it ? Thanks to the (anonymous) person who said what a good idea it was to list the songs in alphabetical order. I'm glad it makes it easier for you. Good Night !

The message boards here are fun and informative, but the main site is what keeps it all going. I'd be happy to put myself in charge of it if you'd like, my darling Old Fitty. You do so much for us already.

Peaches, I think that is an absolutely GREAT IDEA ! I'm very happy to accept your offer to do that. The more songs we can get on the main site the better.

OLD 55 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks Laurie. I didn't realise yours wasn't ranked. I put on an ambiguous Post when I was going to bed last night. I'm sorry to inconvience these people: Levis (I think hers probably are "in order" though) Jenny Malakin Peaches and there's another 7 who haven't "voted" yet. ................................................. We're going O.K. though ! I know many people think I have a lot of music knowledge, but when I looked at that list of 46 nominations and saw how many songs I didn't know, I realised how ignorant I am of some eras. I had sick parents in the latter part of the 60s, got married in 1969, and we had 3 kids in fairly quick succession, before our other 2 "later arrivals". I'm doing something about it though (the Music, I mean). I'm acquiring the songs I don't know and having a good listen to them. Sammy - I can't find Bodhisattva. You're not tricking OLD 55 are you ?

Brad_M Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Dang! I just noticed Locomotive Breath on the list. How did I miss it before. I would have voted for it. That song is kick @$$!
OLD 55 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks RonJon ! "Cowgirl In The Sand" is one of the ones I'm acquiring. I know the CSNY version of it, but not really the Neil Young acoustic one.
RonJonSurfer Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 It's the Neil Young, solo, electric version from his album "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere"...that album starts with Cinnamon Girl and also has Down By The River...not bad huh. The electric guitar work is such vintage Neil...I love the song.
OLD 55 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks RonJon. I'll be sure to acquire that one.
OLD 55 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 Dang! I just noticed Locomotive Breath on the list. How did I miss it before. I would have voted for it. That song is kick @$$! Sorry Mate. If it misses out this time nominate it again ! Two others voted it highly (one #1 and one #5). We're certainly going to have a new look Top Ten. 12 Voters locked in at 55 Points per time = 660 Points allocated so far. I'd better not lose the list with my calculations on it.
