Tenacious_Peaches
The Hurting - Tears for Fears Is it an horrific dream Am I sinking fast Could a person be so mean As to laugh and laugh On my own Could you ease my load Could you see my Pain Could you please explain The Hurting Could you understand a child When he cries in Pain Could you give him all he needs Or do you feel the same All along You've been told you're wrong When you felt it right And you're left to fight The Hurting Get in line with the things you know Feel the Pain Feel the sorrow Touch the hurt and don't let go Get in line with the things you know Learn to cry Like a baby Then the hurting won't come back

The Seeker
Layla -- Derek & The Dominos "There are few moments in the repertoire of recorded rock where a singer or writer has reached so deeply into himself that the effect of hearing them is akin to witnessing a murder, or a suicide... to me, 'Layla' is the greatest of them." - Dave Marsh

edna
Every song from the "Berlin" album by Lou Reed. "The Bed" This is the place where she lay her head When she went to bed at night And this is the place our children were conceived Candles lit the room brightly at night And this is the place where she cut her wrists That odd and fateful night And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling This is the place where we used to live I paid for it with love and blood And these are the boxes that she kept on the shelf Filled with her poetry and stuff And this is the room where she took the razor And cut her wrists that strange and fateful night And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling I never would have started if Id known That its end this way But funny thing, Im not at all sad That it stopped this way This is the place where she lay her head When she went to bed at night And this is the place our children were conceived Candles lit the room brightly at night And this is the place where she cut her wrists That odd and fateful night And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling And I said, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, what a feeling "Caroline Says" I and II
Otokichi
Depressing songs usually are from the first person's viewpoint or comment on another's downward spiral. However, consider a song from the departed to the survivor and see if it affects you. "In The End" by Nathan Aweau No matter where I've been And all the many faces There's one thing that I'm missin'... Is to be next to you...to be close to you (Chorus) And in the end, please don't cry for me And in the end, a smile will set me free And in the end, love is all I need... It's the only thing that matters in my life When all is said and done And all the cheers are gone I've had a good time In my life...in my life Streaming audio of this and other Nathan Aweau songs: http://mog.com/music/Nathan_Aweau

IndestructibleJake
I personally find Say Goodnight by Bullet for My Valentine quite depressing and somber. Heaven's waiting for you Just close your eyes and say goodbye Hearing your pulse go on and on and on I live my life in misery I'd sacrifice this world to hold you No breath left inside of me Shattered glass keeps falling Say... Say goodnight Just sleep tight say goodnight... Flowers laid out for you So many colors leave me blind Seeing your face reflect from our baby's eyes I live my life in misery I'd sacrifice this world to hold you No breath left inside of me Shattered glass keeps falling Say... Say goodnight Just sleep tight say goodnight... So here I am You're inside of me So here I am Our world is over So here I am You're inside of me So here I am Our world is over Here I am with you I'm there till the end Memories are calling So farewell my friend Farewell my friend! Here I am with you I'm there till the end Memories are calling So farewell my friend Farewell my friend!

Viaene
In the end - Linkin Park I've put my trust in you Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There's only one thing you should know I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter

sparkplug54
Laurie_ 11-21-05 08:35 PM - Post#172464 thought that "Can't You See" is depresing. Lyrically, it's a blues type construction. The singer is sad, but he's moving on. "Gonna catch a frieght train...Till that train runs out of track" Get away from it all. Start a new life. He's not suicidal, or any such. He's coping. BTW, a few years after the Marshall Tucker Band had their hit, Waylon Jennings took his recording to success on the country charts. A good song has legs, and this one does. poetrychick
Brick by Ben Folds Five 6 am day after christmas I throw some clothes on in The dark The smell of cold Car seat is freezing The world is sleeping and I am numb Up the stairs to her apartment She is balled up on the couch Her mom and dad went down To charlotte Theyre not home to find us Out And we drive Now that I have founds someone Im feeling more alone Than I ever have before Chorus Shes a brick and Im drowning Slowly Off the coast and Im headed Nowhere Shes a brick and Im drowning Slowly They call her name at 7:30 I pace around the parking lot Then I walk down to buy her Flowers And sell some gifts that I got Cant you see Its not me youre dying for Now shes feeling more alone Than she ever has before Chorus As weeks went by It showed that she was not fine They told me son its time To tell the truth And she broke down and I broke Down cause I was tired of lying Driving back to her apartment For the moment were alone Shes alone And Im alone Now I know it

Chicagojeff
Page & Plant - Big Log My love is in league with the freeway Its passion will ride, as the cities fly by And the tail-lights dissolve, in the coming of night And the questions in thousands take flight My love is a-miles in the waiting The eyes that just stare, and the glance at the clock And the secret that burns, and the pain that grows dark And it's you once again Leading me on - leading me down the road Driving beyond - driving me down the road My love is exceedingly vivid Red-eyed and fevered with the hum of the miles Distance and longing, my thoughts do provide Should I rest for a while at the side Your love is cradled in knowing Eyes in the mirror, still expecting they'll come Sensing too well when the journey is done There is no turning back - no There is no turning back - on the run My love is in league with the freeway Oh the freeway, and the coming of night-time My love is in league with the freeway Just Plant on that one.. the second album principle of Moments..
