Lucky
I like certain Jackson songs, most from the J5 era, but a few MJ songs as well. I had toyed with the idea of making this a MJ tribute week, to come up with our own Top Ten to rival the main one ... but nobody else was around to bounce the idea off of. So blind-fitter, I guess I can count on votes from you for Poco & Tommy James & the Shondells then, huh??

Hey, that's a great idea, woman! Apparently we have plenty of posters who are broken up over his death and respect his musical legacy. And heaven knows we love to vote on stuff. Make it so. blind-fitter
Apparently we have plenty of posters who are broken up over his death and respect his musical legacy. And then there's me. To be fair: I respect his musical legacy, I just don't like it that much. I'm an irritable sort and there are just too many features that rub me up the wrong way. Jackson 5: Precocious kids in bands, irritatingly high-pitched squeaking and squealing for vocals. Some think "cute", I think not. Solo/ late 70s disco period: Never really liked disco that much- generally preferred new-wave, ska, etc. Recognised the quality of the music- you can't deny "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough", "Blame It On The Boogie" - but preferred the Chic axis of "disco". Solo 80s period: recognised the ambitious vision that went into Thriller, but disliked all the ritualistic mannerisms; the squeal, the crotch-grab, (found it all kind of pathetic, to be honest, and wondered who on earth would be impressed by such behaviours), disliked the synchronised dance routines a la West Side Story (Never been a fan of such things), unconvincing gangland imagery made glamorous for kids: never could see what was so great / cool about being "Bad". Thought Billie-Jean sucked. Remained unmoved by the supposedly revolutionary concept of having ROCK GUITAR on DISCO RECORDS!!! (Wow, who'd have thought it possible?) Solo 90s: became increasingly enervated by his persistance with the aforementioned ritualistic mannerisms used to adorn music gradually being reduced to trite cliche, and increasingly impatient with a world enthralled by his unedifying "phenomenon". But that doesn't mean to say that there aren't aspects of his musical legacy I respect. (The Moonwalk ) I might even participate in a Special Jacko Top Ten, if one were organised. pinkstones
The dancing is the best part. I know people that don't care for his music but can at least respect the fact that he could dance the stage off.
BlueAngel
^Agreed. While I like a few of his songs both with The Jackson 5 and solo, his talent was more as an incredible performer/dancer, IMO.

MindCrime
I probably won't even have enough room for own noms. With all the sentimental nominating going on, it looks like I might be lucky if I have ten songs to choose from this week. He's got 5.05 songs already this week.
