Musicians I didn't meet.

Sorry about this folks, but here we go.

My Dad swears that Paul Kossoff (the fellow from Free) had tea at our house 30 years ago. My Dad was doing some work for the Prison Service at the time, and managed to get him to play for some prisoners. I didn't meet him.

A family friend married an up & coming music industry person many years ago (divorced now). At the time he represented a number of new acts including Radiohead. Apparently there were some members of Radiohead at the wedding reception but I don't remember anybody that scruffy. I didn't meet them.

My sister and her husband do a bit of promotion as a hobby, and are friends with The Damned. A few years ago the band played in a small club in town I was living in, as a bit of a favour to my sister & husband. I was away that weekend. I didn't meet them.

An ex-girlfriend's sister used to go out with the bass player from Terrorvision. I didn't get to meet him either.

I am sure there are others, but as I didn't get to meet any of them I can't remember!

Regards

PS - one for Costello, I once saw Elvis Costello in a supermarket in Camden (London). He was studiously comparing frozen vegetables, so I didn't like to interrupt (you don't do you?), so I didn't meet him either.

I did meet the runner-up in the UK 'human beat-box' championships in the pub a few weeks ago. The conversation was a bit one way though, something like:-

How do you get to be a human beat-box then, mate?

Chpaw bp bp bp tsk tsk.....

Regards

Buying frozen vegetables is an important task, so I am glad you did not interrupt. I however would have acted like a hair tearing gal circa Beatle mania and would have to have been escorted away by the police.

My friend Kevin claims he went to high school with John Mayer and played in a band with him. I still haven't met John Mayer.

My friend Rusty (the only Rusty in Connecticut) claims Cyndi Lauper is a family friend. I still haven't met Cyndi Lauper.

For years, I was on the air at a Classic Rock station in Hartford. I usually did a show on Sunday afternoons, and if there was a big concert in town, some of our jocks would interview the musicians while I was back in the studio. In this way, I didn't meet Steve Miller, George Thorogood, Charlie Daniels, Ted Nugent, Carlos Santana or any member of Tesla, Molly Hatchet or Cheap Trick.

My Dad "claims" that he was at he same school as Ringo Star, I can't remeber what school it was, and I think my dad was making it up.

Having read through what I just wrote, I'm not sure that there was any point in it! Oh well, Im gonna post it anyway, why waste a whole 60 seconds typing someting and then not giving it to the world? :shades: :beatnik: :shades:

I am from Taylor, MI, which is the hometown the late dwarf guy that was like Kid Rock's side kick. Not that I like Kid Rock's music, but our next door neihgbors (Who seem to know everyone) always had the midget over, although I didn't know who he was at the time. They said Kid Rock swam in their pool. I'm straying a little from the subject here, but for those of you who know the pro baseball player Steve Avery, he grew up right down the street from where I did. But there is probably around a ten or fifteen year age gap, so he was significantly older than I. And these same neighbors, the ones who knew Kid Rock's sidekick, got to play baseball with Steve Avery once. I don't think I ever even met him. None of this tops that radio one, Carl. Man, that seriously sucks.

Just to resurrect an old thread, a friend of mine in Todmorden is also a friend of Lisa Stansfield. He used to play bass in clubs and thats how they met. Many years ago he had a party and Lisa (as she is known to her friends) turned up for an hour or so. I was waiting for a bus that never came, so I didn't get to meet her either! Swears like a fish-wife apparently...

My boyfriend's family (from years ago) were personal friends of Bruuuuce ~ of the Springsteen family. My boyfriend's brother, Johnny, used to play in a band called Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes (he wasn't THAT Johnny, he just played in the band) and they used to jam with Bruce in Asbury Park. Apparently Bruce's E-Street Band used to go over to my boyfriend's family's house and jam in the basement, also. And on a couple of occasions, Little Steven Van Zant fell asleep on their couch alongside my boyfriend's sister. So even though nothing happened between them, they joked that Cindy "slept" with Little Steven.

Anyway, this family was rich, big house, servants, 5 course meals, and it was surreal to hear them talking about "Bruce" and what he was doing then, etc. and to them it was just another conversation.

I never got to meet him. My boyfriend was a meth-head, so I kicked him to the curb fairly quickly.

I used to do business with Bruce's father in law, Patty's Dad. He owned a mobile home park in NJ. When you walked in the office of the park, he had an autographed picture of Bruce, hanging on a corkboard, with a thumbtack pushed through the pic. It was always hung crooked too.

My sister went to her Junior Prom with the guy that was the original bass player for Bon Jovi (his name was Such or something like that). I was about 10 or 11 then and I remember looking at the guy and thinking "What a clown". silly Tux, silly shoes, silly hair....he was eventually booted from the band I think.

Another guy who I didn't meet, but my best friend, Naomi, graduated from high school with him, was Tom Delonge from Blink 182. He was my friend's class' homecoming king and she showed me his picture in their yearbook and all. She didn't really know him, but remembers him from just being around.

I'm not a fan of Blink 182, so I really don't care that I never met him. I just think that's intriguing that she went to school with him.

Well I only met one slighly famous person. My cousin is going out with I think his name is Rob James. From McMaster and James. My science teacher last year and homeroom teacher this year also does security. He gets to meet every band that comes to summerfest and other events here in Winnipeg and other places. His wife got to drive The Beach Boys to the air port. He has had tons of people go to his house and get to talk to them. I envy that job.

my cousin went to primary school and was best friends with bono's daughter. i met her and bono's wife at many birthday parties but never mr hewson himself. my family went over to his house, swam in his outdoor heated pool and my brother played on his guitar. i was in a plane on my way home to dublin.

my boy and i were on holidays in italy two years back. we were in a pub in florence and got chatting to a middle-aged american couple. the husband was the boss's stage manager and they invited us back to their hotel for a private party ;) needless to say, we politely declined!

i have befriended a number of successful irish musicians who worked with and were close friends with jeff buckley (that's not why i befriended them! i didn't know at the time!) and i've met his mother. as close as i can get unfortunately :(

i've passed a number of semi-famous irish people in the airport or on the street but it would mean very little to you folks!

Can't really compete with your tales of woe, Diggs.

I was once stood quite close to the singer of Yip Yip Coyote, (Fifi, I think her name was), but I was too shy to speak to her.

Wattie of the Exploited once stood on my foot in a crowded Edinburgh "nitespot", but I was too cowardly to challenge him about it. Or the fact that he danced to New Order....

I once missed the chance of meeting the Manic Street Preachers, on the grounds that I'd never heard of them (at the time), and went to see the UK Subs in Doncaster instead.

Am I getting warm?

ooh manics, love them, was obsessed with them. they played in our opera house once upon a time and i knew the guy on the backstage door but he wouldn't let me in - boo!!

They're probably really nice chaps, and they used to be a really good band: "The Holy Bible" in particular, is a great album. "Everything Must Go" was the last of theirs that did anything for me. After that it seems to me, its been a case of "If You Tolerate This, Then "Plodding Mediocrity" Will Be Next". :sleepy: ("The Masses Against The Classes" excepted)

They're tricky buggers to meet though, aren't they? ;)
