Viaene
yay for the nominations of our Lizard! ^^Edna, I think spending a few weeks on songfacts make you realise you'll never see it all
Farin
I'm not making fun of these artists at all, you misunderstood that a bit I just think that a bit more obscure choices should be nominated so that we can really learn something about the nominator's taste in music
The Seeker
Some people's taste (mine too) includes the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel very much. That's why they're so famous... so it does tell you a lot about the nominator's taste in music.
Farin
if I ask you to tell me something about yourself and you reply with "I wear clothes" then that doesn't tell me much, no (waiting for UncleJoe's reply) Edited July 21, 2008 by Guest realised something
The Seeker
Well, seeing as my three favourite bands are The Who, Oasis and The Beatles, I could think of that as just a tiny bit insulting, since yes... they're very mainstream.

Lea
The old groups and artists like The Beatles, Stones, Clapton etc. have remained popular all these years for a reason. They set the stage for future bands and their that good. When you younger people become the senior generation, you"ll be saying the same thing about your most cherished groups/artists as we say to you today. I love young people and I often wonder who your Beatles and Stones will be and what the young people of your senior years will be listening to
TheLizard
Pearl Jam is pretty darn mainstream at this point. Just not necessarily in the Songfacts world.

edna
Captain Sensible of The Damned recorded a song "Jet Boy Jet Girl" ( ) ...so Yvan Lacomblez created the stew of words that became 'Ca Plane Pour Moi' to the tune of 'Jet Boy Jet Girl.' Now, I never knew this before.

Steel2Velvet
Modern??? 1977 or thereabouts, I would wager. So, ummmm...30 years ago. Yikes! Doesn't time fly! Bizarrely enough, "Ca Plane Pour Moi" was marketed as "punk rock" at the time. Plastic (real name Roger Jouret) had previously been the drummer of a proper Belgian punk band (Hubble Bubble). Thanks for watching my back, B-F. I watched/listened to the video and it seemed so now, plus young Viaene was the nominator, I just thought it was a "today" song. Just underscores the timeless nature of music and performance and the SFer's eclectic music tastes.

karma
hey Phil, love the song "Carmelita" but can't stand to watch the video so I just close my eyes and listen. Great song and will get my vote.
phil
Thanx Karma. It's a real perty song. I think Warren Zevon wrote it. The video is horrible.

OLD 55
I was a teenager when Elvis took the world by storm, and in my early 20s when The Beatles did likewise. I don't believe I'll see phenomenons like them again in my lifetime. Here's a nice ballad from each. :guitar: Fool On The Hill, The - The Beatles (1967) It's Now Or Never - Elvis Presley (1960) WELCOME BACK LARS

Levis
But it's true, what he sez... that is what we did. that's what I did... I've voted for and even nominated the Beatles (twice). It is fact, not insult.
Dappled
Pearl Jam is pretty darn mainstream at this point. Just not necessarily in the Songfacts world. If a song is played in the Swedish radio program "Summer" going for the 50th year this summer, it's mainstream. So far this year I've heard Coldplay, Rage Against The Machine and Death Cab For Cutie...
