Carl
"Spill The Wine" is in the Top-10 today, possibly because it's being used in those Cougar Town promos on TBS. I'll never watch the show and don't understand why people drinking wine is funny, but very glad that our buddy Harold Brown (drummer for War) and the other original band members will get a fatter royalty check. Brad_M
...I'll never watch the show and don't understand why people drinking wine is funny... Maybe this visual interlude will explain why people drinking wine is funny, Carl.
Carl
OK, that is funny. Another random music thought: Was watching Ryan Seacrest's Rockin' New Year's Eve, and PSY finally reached the breaking point with "Gangnam Style" where even he is clearly sick of the song. What's remarkable about this fad is how is ended so succinctly as the calendar flipped to 2013. This thing is over. There is nobody who needs to hear that song or any variation thereof until it bubbles up again as nostalgia.
miamisammy29
...and somebody call Animal Control. They need to put that Pitbull to sleep.
Carl
Apparently, New York City did not have a country radio station until last week. I get that NYC isn't the cowboy crowd, buy you would think that in a city that size, there would be enough Tim McGraw fans to support a station. Carl
Unless you count the "One Love/People Get Ready" (Marley/Mayfield) medley performed by the Cast of Glee, there has never been a Hot 100 hit titled "One Love." These come close: One Love, One Heart Only One Love One Love In My Lifetime Only One Love In My Life Unfaithfully Yours (One Love) One Lover At A Time
Carl
Perhaps the two biggest female singing stars of the '80s were also emaciatingly skinny: Diana Ross and Olivia Newton-John. If The Supremes were around today, Ross would be "the skinny one," akin to Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child.
Brad_M
I think Madonna would take the title of the biggest female singing star of the 80's, hands down. Diana and Olivia would be in my Top 4, along with Whitney Houston.
Carl
How about "biggest female singing stars of 1981" - the mid-'80s were still pretty waify (See: Whitney Houston), but Madonna went against that trend.
TheLizard
So I've been in kind of a Weird Al mood today and I learned that Ray Manzarek actually played on the Doors-pastiche "Craigslist". How cool is that?

Shawna
ha! sounds like an inebriated, slightly less baritone Sean Connery saying, "Cigarettes."
TheLizard
I think you mean a more inebriated Sean Connery. I just assume Sean Connery exists at a constant baseline of inebriation.

TheLizard
Today I learned that The Rivieras - of "California Sun" fame - were from South Bend, Indiana. If there is any place in the country that is the opposite of California Sun, it's South Bend, Indiana.

Carl
Just realized that in these lyrics from "Stoned Soul Picnic": Red yellow honey Sassafras and moonshine The "moonshine" is probably the light of the moon, not bootlegged alcohol. It changes my mental picture considerably.
