Mike Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 What was the first song registered on Songfacts?
Carl Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to hold any of this against me... It's "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles. Some of my friends loved the movie Can't Buy Me Love so much, they had a theme party where you were encouraged to dress up like your favorite character from the film. As we discussed the cultural significance of Patrick Dempsey over our favorite beverages, I kept spouting interesting tidbits about the song - like how it was one of the 5 Beatles songs to hold the top 5 chart positions at once, and how it was a rare song that started with the chorus. After enjoying more of my favorite beverages and ripping off my sleaves to complete the Patrick Dempsey look, I started thinking about putting this song information into some kind of database. So I put Filemaker on my Powerbook 2400 and started entering in song information. Of course, the first song had to be the one that gave me the idea in the first place. I was a disc jockey, and the database was a wonderful show prep device, allowing me to access song information without digging through magazines and reference guides. Listeners loved hearing about the songs, so I put the database on line so anyone could enjoy it and contribute. A lot of people did, and we have Patrick Dempsey to thank. Carl
Mike Posted December 7, 2004 Author Report Posted December 7, 2004 This story ought to be linked to the main page. It's like framing the first dollar bill in a business. Maybe a title - -The birth of the fish- I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to hold any of this against me... It's "Can't Buy Me Love" by The Beatles. Uncle Joe Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I agree with the Floyd. All of Songfacts' history should be preserved. It's a classic.
PSYCHOcatholic Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Wow, this is an oldie...before i was even around. Go Patrick Dempsey. And, i agree...this should be on the front page of Songfacts.
Kevin Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 What does " being redirected " mean in the 'Online' function ? It is the most common activity report for annonymous users.
edna Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Could it be people surfing the web who go to the SF link and they get the old site, so it redirects them to the new one?
katie_sane Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 I have a question, why am I stuck on sea anemone? Shouldn't I be three evolutions above that on starfish? I only just noticed
Elvish Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 I have a question, why am I stuck on sea anemone? Shouldn't I be three evolutions above that on starfish? I only just noticed You're fixed, dear.
_jr_ Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 You're fixed, dear. Wow. That's pretty personal to be annoincing to everyone.
Tenacious_Peaches Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 I have a random SF question. Does anyone else have a problem opening up their private topics from the My Fusion area? I have to click on "View Private Topics" about 10 times before it opens up. Everything else is fine...it's just that one link. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Carl and his magnificent team of Greek gods who have made this board so flawless that the only thing I can complain about is as minute as one link not opening up with lightning fast speed. This will be the second time today I have professed my love for Carl. I think I have a crush on the boss.
Earth-Angel Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Ooooooh Carl & Peaches sittin' in a tree... I have a constantly flashing PT envelope, it only goes away when I log out and back in. I've read all the messages there and have even deleted a lot of older ones, but still the flashing occurs.
edna Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 I have the flashing fgolder too...sometimes I must click five times or so before it disappears... And everything´s fine for me... Only some thread which will go slow maybe (Random Thoughts right now) or the missing last post in Fun&Games... but just like Peaches, I can´t complain...
miamisammy29 Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Hey, its' flashing....cool! I do have friends, after all.
edna Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I can´t believe nobody sends nice messages to sammy... We´ll have to do something about it...
Earth-Angel Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 I also seem to be having avatar troubles today. I tried to re-upload my avatar and was greeted by this message: The following problems were found with this form: The avatar was not uploaded. Often this is because the avatar upload directory is not writable on the server. Notify the site administrator of the issue. Carl? Nikos?
Kevin Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 My left index finger itches continuously when I find myself in the ' Concerts' thread ... any help ?
Earth-Angel Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Take one of these And come and see me again on Monday please. That'll be $100
Carl Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I'm puzzled by the private topic issue. Mine is pretty smooth, but I'll mention it to the Fusion folks, who have ver 1.1 in the works. Anyone else having trouble with Avatars? I love you too, Peaches.
edna Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I still would like to know how comes you can´t upload an avatar heavier than 6B, whish is a non-existing thing... it should be 6K... but anyways, I linked mine, so I´m just curious.
Earth-Angel Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 It says it is set to 5.86 KB in the control panel for me I figured out what one of the avatar problem was with me, I had right-clicked on a picture to see if it was hotlinked or linked to an image host, and clicked "block images from photobucket" erroneously. All I needed to do was unclick it - all sorted.
