simon and garfunkle, mama's and papa's, booker t and the mg's, all performed at a certain place in the 60's....among many others

Wow. It's Monterey Pop. Simon & Garfunkel and Booker T & The MGs weren't shown in D.A. Pennebaker's original 79-minute film. I hadn't realized how totally amazing the complete line-up of acts for that three-day festival was.

some songs:

[*] Limbo Rock (1962)

[*] Black Pearl "precious little girl, let me put you up where you belong" (1969)

[*] Layla (1970)

It doesn't have to do with the lyrics, the production, or chart positions.

Think outside the box.

All Have to do with women who left thier men unhappy.

Huh?

Limbo Rock was a party craze dance song, from the same man who acquainted America with The Twist.

" Jack be limbo, Jack be quick

Jack go unda limbo stick

All around the limbo clock

Hey, let's do the limbo rock

Don't move that limbo bar

You'll be a limbo star

How low can you go? "

There are other songs titled Black Pearl (by Bryan Adams, Zakk Wylde & Black Label Society), but this one, the group's only noteable hit was produced by Phil Spector, and has a kind of "black pride" message.

" You been working so hard your whole life through

Tendin' other people's houses

Raisin' up their children too

Hey how about something for me and you

Here in my arms you're gonna reign supreme

No more servin' baby

They're gonna serve my queen ...

My world is built around

The very smile that's on your face

You'll never win a beauty show

No they won't pick you

But you're my miss America "

Remember: the lyrics, producer, and chart status don't matter. In fact, even the names of these particular songs aren't the key to the Common Link.

Yes! Game-related artists' names.

Chubby Checker. His stage name was really a play on "Fats Domino" (I might have included Fats but chose "Derek and" instead).

(Sonny Charles &) The Checkmates Ltd. I have to admit they are a little obsure (I remembered the group name, but I had to Google up the song).

Derek and the Dominos. When it comes to Layla, people think of Eric Clapton and forget the rest of the band.

New game.

Lay a link on us, Laurie.

John Mellencamp = R.O.C.K in the USA

The Kinks = L-O-L-A, Lola

Aretha Franklin = R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means ...

Them/Doors = G-L-O-R-I-A, Glooooooriaaa

Nat King Cole = L.O.V.E (L is for the way you look at me..)

Is that it?

I really hate coming up with these, but here goes. What do these three acts have in common:

Ben Folds Five

The Thompson Twins

Timbuk 3

(and no, it's not that they were one-hit wonders, because the Thompson Twins weren't)

Steam - "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)"

Journey - "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" (Na na na na na na na na na na na")

Beatles - "Hey Jude" ("Na na na na na na na na na na na, Hey Jude")

New one (similar to the last one):

What do these artists have in common?

Ringo Starr

Tennesee Ernie Ford

The Crests
