_Jayson_
Metallica - One I can?t remember anything Can?t tell if this is true or dream Deep down inside I feel to scream This terrible silence stops me Now that the war is through with me I?m waking up I can not see That there is not much left of me Nothing is real but pain now Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please god, wake me Back in the womb it?s much too real In pumps life that I must feel But can?t look forward to reveal Look to the time when I?ll live Fed through the tube that sticks in me Just like a wartime novelty Tied to machines that make me be Cut this life off from me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please god, wake me Now the world is gone I?m just one Oh god, help me hold my breath as I wish for death Oh please God help me Darkness imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell And also Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun

RonJonSurfer
David Bowie's "Running Gun Blues" paints a bleak picture. BTW "The Man Who Sold The World" is an amazing album. Truly a "Bowie does metal" experience. Tony Visconti's bass lines are legendary. Mick Ronson on guitar is magic. It's a great, but dark album. David Bowie Lyrics Running Gun Blues Lyrics I count the corpses on my left, I find I'm not so tidy So I better get away, better make it today I've cut twenty-three down since Friday But I can't control it, my face is drawn My instinct still emotes it I slash them cold, I kill them dead I broke the gooks, I cracked their heads I'll bomb them out from under the beds But now I've got the running gun blues It seems the peacefuls stopped the war Left generals squashed and stifled But I'll slip out again tonight Cause they haven't taken back my rifle For I promote oblivion And I'll plug a few civilians I'll slash them cold, I'll kill them dead I'll break them gooks, I'll crack their heads I'll slice them till they're running red But now I've got the running gun blues Soundtracks | TV Themes | One Hit Wonders

RonJonSurfer
War Pigs-Black Sabbath How could I forget War Pigs...that song sounds like war. How about Donovan's "to Susan on the West Coast Waiting" Too obscure? It's the flip side of Atlantis!! Remember 45's?

Elvish
Willie Nelson wrote this one about a year ago, so it's "modern" in the sense that it's new and relates to today's wars. What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth? There's so many things going on in the world Babies dying Mothers crying How much oil is one human life worth And what ever happened to peace on earth We believe everything that they tell us They're gonna' kill us So we gotta' kill them first But I remember a commandment Thou shall not kill How much is that soldier's life worth And whatever happened to peace on earth (Bridge) And the bewildered herd is still believing Everything we've been told from our birth Hell they won't lie to me Not on my own damn TV But how much is a liar's word worth And whatever happened to peace on earth So I guess it's just Do unto others before they do it to you Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out Is this what God wants us to do (Repeat Bridge) Now you probably won't hear this on your radio Probably not on your local TV But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined You can always hear it from me How much is one picker's word worth And whatever happened to peace on earth But don't confuse caring for weakness You can't put that label on me The truth is my weapon of mass protection And I believe truth sets you free (Repeat Bridge)

bazooka
im looking for some songs that have to do with the sadness of war and songs on soldiers fighting in the wars (modern music plz) Over There ~ George M. Cohan Over There might be considered "modern" in the sense that it is not "ancient", but it is basically cheerleading for US involvement at the end of World War I and pretty much glorifies going to battle. Some sample lyrics: Hurry right away, no delay, go today, Make your daddy glad to have had such a lad Tell your sweetheart not to pine, To be proud her boy's in line... We'll be over, we're coming over. And we won't be back till it's over over there!
bazooka
I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag by Country Joe and The Fish parodies the kind of "glories of war" sentiments expressed in Over There Also from the Vietnam era, The Unknown Soldier (<) by The Doors has some strange poetic lyrics: Make a grave for the unknown soldier Nestled in your hollow shoulder The unknown soldier Breakfast where the news is read Television children fed Bullet strikes the helmet's head
