Ombre Vivante Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 ^ Good suggestions BA - I didn't actually realise Fisher Z and Real Life were Australian. I will always consider Split Enz to be a New Zealand band only (it's why they spell Enz with 'NZ'). I couldn't think of any Men At Work songs I would like to nominate at the time I compiled this list, but I have thought of a few since. Good turnout so far guys - keep the votes coming! Ah, I thought you was inclusive of the kiwis since you listed Crowded House (aren't they from NZ?)
c_s_1987 Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 ^ No, Neil Finn was their only original Kiwi member, and they formed in Australia.

(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind – Powderfinger Seeing as it was ANZAC day just this week, I couldn't help but vote! (Plus I actually had time this week yay!) This is probably the ptt where I've known the most songs (though definitely not all) which is soooooo weird since a lot of other people seem to know very few. I didn't realise how much music from across the ditch gets playtime here until I listened to this list!

The Cat Empire! and a whole lot of (other) Indie pop stuff from Melbourne too

I had never heard of Cold Chisel before you introduced me to them a year or two (or possibly three) years ago. Now whenever I see mention of them, I always think of you. (Awwww....). Anywho, I had a blast listening to all your songs. I can't believe I've never heard of Baby Animals. That chick rocks me sideways.

c_s_1987 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I love it! I really didn't know how the voting would turn out for this PTT, but I'm really happy with the top ten. Thanks to everyone, especially you Ron. Clearly no one here agrees with the Australian public that "Throw Your Arms Around Me" is the second greatest song of all time.
Farin Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 no, not really... it's better than the Jet song though, but that might just be me (what's the greatest song btw?)
c_s_1987 Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Throw Your Arms Around me has been #2 in the Triple J Hottest 100 Of All Time three times now. The first two times Love Will Tear Us Apart was #1, the other time Smells Like Teen Spirit was #1. That list usually has pretty strange results.
Viaene Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Wolfmother! Thanks for reminding me of those guys!
Lucky Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 This was great fun cs, listening to so many songs new to me. I'm also terribly impressed by Orianthe. So much that I researched her a bit (she was set to be MJ's lead guitarist on his This Is It concert/album) .... I totally agree with the video comments comparing her sound (on that song anyway) to a combo of Vai & Santana. This girl has real talent and I'll search out more of her music.
MindCrime Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 I like Orianthi, I was already familiar with her being MJ's guitarist and some of her hits here.
Lea Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 It was great fun listening to your list Chris. You Aussie's have some great bands thank you for sharing I finally got that "Boys Light Up" song out of my head On a side note and you being a fellow ELP fan, did you know Greg Lake had to cancel a concert in Texas because he became ill? I don't know what happened but he said he will be continue the tour when he's feeling better. I know some of our rock icons are getting older just like us. It's tragic and sad when health issues arise
c_s_1987 Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 ^ I hadn't heard that news about Greg Lake, but unfortunately these things seem to be happening pretty often these days.
edna Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Chris, thank you for your great choice... you gave me some work... but it was worth it!!!
LarryJcbs Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Seem to me like Orianthi has some of Santana's gutar tone (especially the later sound), but not sure if I hear Carlos Santana's licks in her playing.
