Steel2Velvet
Nothing needed from me, as the southernmost man explains it all: c s 1987's Personal Top Ten I have heard many Songfactors say they participate in Top Tens mainly to discover music they are not familiar with. My Personal Top Ten is aimed at those people. It is an All Australian Personal Top Ten, focusing mainly on Australian songs that are popular here, but not overseas. I have only included songs that I like (it is a PTT, after all), but I have ensured there is some variety in genres. I realise that almost everyone will have to listen to the whole playlist in order to have heard enough of the songs to participate, so I am expecting less voters than usual. To those who do vote, thank you. Youtube Playlist Ride On – AC/DC Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again - The Angels Bombora – The Atlantics The Boys Light Up - Australian Crawl Rush You – Baby Animals Spicks And Specks – The Bee Gees Cigarettes Will Kill You – Ben Lee Chained To The Wheel – The Black Sorrows Don’t You Think It’s Time – Bob Evans Run To Paradise - Choirboys Unguarded Moment - The Church Bow River - Cold Chisel Flame Trees - Cold Chisel Four Walls - Cold Chisel Saturday Night – Cold Chisel Standing On The Outside - Cold Chisel Four Seasons In One Day – Crowded House Good Times - The Easybeats Foreign Land - Eskimo Joe Picture Frames – Georgia Fair Learnalilgivinanlovin - Gotye The Nosebleed Section – Hilltop Hoods Bittersweet - Hoodoo Gurus Throw Your Arms Around Me – Hunters And Collectors Great Southern Land - Icehouse By My Side - INXS Look What You’ve Done - Jet Zebra - John Butler Trio You’re The Voice – John Farnham Come On Come On – Little Birdy Short Memory - Midnight Oil The Special Two – Missy Higgins Come Said The Boy – Mondo Rock Lights Of Manos - Orianthi To Her Door – Paul Kelly My Happiness – Powderfinger Oipic - Powderfinger (Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind - Powderfinger Since You’ve Been Gone – Powderfinger These Days – Powderfinger I Was Only Nineteen – Redgum I’m Stranded – The Saints Rosanna - Sebastian Hardie Horror Movie – Skyhooks Tomorrow – Silverchair Duncan – Slim Dusty Red Pony - The Triffids London Still – The Waifs White Unicorn – Wolfmother Treaty – Yothu Yindi Thanks, Mate. MindCrime
Silverchair's "Tomorrow" was actually a popular hit in the States back in '95. I'm in the middle of listening to samples of these songs and working on putting a vote together. edit: The Jet video in the playlist isn't available. Other good artists that were omitted: Men @ Work, The Vines, and Nick Cave.
edna
Oh, my... I have a lot of listening to do, Chris... I only know five songs on your list... I'm listening to the list and I already loved 2 songs and dislike some 3...
c_s_1987
edit: The Jet video in the playlist isn't available. Strange - it works for me, so I guess some or all EMI videos don't work in the US. I've added an alternative version of the video to the end of the playlist. Today (the day this thread was opened) is ANZAC Day, which is Australia's main war remembrance day, and also happens to be my fourth Songfacts anniversary. Nice coincidence. I hope you all enjoy discovering Australian music. Edited April 25, 2010 by Guest
Lea
I'm looking forward to listening Chris. I always like listening to new stuff. I recognize a few artists names but I'm not sure of the songs. Sometimes I don't think I know them and then find out I do I usually listen to all the lists on Sunday but I won't be able to do that this time. I will have to space it out through the week but I will listen

MindCrime
ove the Hoodoo Gurus! They've never gotten their due respect. That song is one of maybe 3 or 4 that I actually had heard before this list, but only because 120 Minutes (an 80's underground video show on VH1 Classic) plays it every now and then. miamisammy29
120 Minutes rules!! The problem is it usually comes on around 3:00am on the East Coast. Don't get to see it that often.

Ombre Vivante
01. "Great Southern Land" by Icehouse (Holy carp! I had totally forgotten about this song. It was featured on Young Einstein ) 02. "Come Said The Boy" by Mondo Rock (another forgotten gem from the 80s) 03. "Horror Movie" by Skyhooks (man, this looks straight out of Phantom Of The Paradise!) 04. "Rush You" by Baby Animals (damn, I'm in l<3ve ) 05. "Learnalilgivinanlovin" by Gotye Film Clip 06. "Bittersweet" by Hoodoo Gurus 07. "Throw Your Arms Around Me" by Hunters And Collectors 08. "Run To Paradise" by The Choirboys 09. "Come On Come On" by Little Birdy 10. "Lights Of Manos" by Orianthi (whoas ) There were some I had a tough time eliminating, esp. the "Duncan" song, but I think of that as more of a guilty pleasure/novelty song. I didn't like the picks for Midnight Oil, Crowded House, The Church, The Bee Gees, and INXS, so the big names were easy to eliminate and I could concentrate of listening to stuff I've never (or hardly) heard. However, there were some glaring omissions: no Fisher Z, Vitamin Z, Uncanny X-Men/Brian Mannix, Real Life, Neil and Tim Finn, Split Enz, Savage Garden (kings of Wuss Rock), Natalie Imbruglia (even though I hate her), Kylie Minogue, Olivia Neuter-John, Men At Work (overplayed, but still good). I don't think I woulda given other songs a chance, though BEWARE THE POWER OF THE MULLET http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvNYK-LLCAg
c_s_1987
^ Good suggestions BA - I didn't actually realise Fisher Z and Real Life were Australian. I will always consider Split Enz to be a New Zealand band only (it's why they spell Enz with 'NZ'). I couldn't think of any Men At Work songs I would like to nominate at the time I compiled this list, but I have thought of a few since. Good turnout so far guys - keep the votes coming! c_s_1987
^ I did give Vanda and Young some representation though, both as performers (Easybeats) and producers (AC/DC). And yes, I did notice your suggestions too Kenne. Thanks, but my decision to include five songs each from my favourites limited my choice.
Steel2Velvet
1. Chained To The Wheel – The Black Sorrows 2. To Her Door – Paul Kelly 3. Flame Trees - Cold Chisel 4. Come On Come On – Little Birdy 5. Four Seasons In One Day – Crowded House 6. Good Times - The Easybeats 7. Treaty – Yothu Yindi 8. Ride On – AC/DC 9. Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again - The Angels 10. Run To Paradise - Choirboys HM - Spicks And Specks – The Bee Gees The only song on your list with which I was very familiar; and that from an album I bought at 15 titled Bee Gees 1st. But not among my favorites on that album. However, listening to Barry's composition here, the talent of these very young kids is so evident. All of my life I call yesterday. Great line. Loved listening to your selections, Chris.
