edna Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Nobody wants to nominate "Run, Rudolph, Run" - Keith or original - Chuck Berry? Come on reindeers You know your the mastermind You better run run Rudolph Santa's gettin' far behind Run run Rudolph Santa's gotta make it to town If Santa makes 'em high tail it We can take the freeway down You gotta run run Rudolph Racin' like a merry-go-round Said Santa to the child "Hey boy, what have you been longing for?" He said "All I want for Christmas Is a rock n' roll electric guitar" And then away went Rudolph Racin' like a shooting star You gotta run run Rudolph Santa's gotta make it to town If Santa makes 'em high tail it We can take the freeway down Well run run Rudolph Racin' like a merry-go-round Come on David, take it Well said Santa to the little girl "What is it that you wanna get?" "A little baby doll that can cry, sleep, drink and wet" Well away went Rudolph, racin' like a searing jet You gotta run run Rudolph Santa's gotta make it to town If Santa makes 'em high tail it We can take the freeway down Well run run Rudolph Racin' like a merry-go round
Lucky Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 I was actually thinking about the Chuck Berry song (Run Run Rudolph).
Jk Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 So many good ones have already been mentioned, but I always liked the sheer ridiculousness of "Everybody Knows The Claus" by Hanson. Don't you smell the cookies he's bakin Can't you see that belly, it's shakin' Don't you take a cookie off that pan You don't want to mess with this man You've never seen this side of him before You know he wont be knockin' at your door Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those good things Everybody knows the Claus Here come Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss Ask Rudolph and he won't steer you wrong Now, Santa wasn't this fat all along Until he started cookin' one day Now don't take that turkey away You've never seen this side of him before You know he won't be knockin' at your door Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those good things Everybody knows the Claus Here comes Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss (bridge) Ridin' down the air highway in his sleigh Bringing all the presents for the next day Don't forget the donuts His cookies and his milk are his pride Or anything that can be deep fried Don't get me wrong now he's a nice guy But you don't want to get on his bad side You've never seen this side of him, you've never seen this side of... Here comes Santa Claus Doin' all those things Everybody knows the Claus Here comes Santa Claus You know he's a big man Don't mess with the boss Also, being that Christmas is a religious holiday, someone should put in something about the true origin of it. I'm not sure if it's the original version or not, but Plus One's "This Is Christmas" is my favorite one of those. They wished upon a star Three wise men traveled far to see A babe who was born to be King The dream in heaven's dreams That made the prophets' words complete And the angels begin to sing They looked to the sky Followed the light Love's greatest gift Had come to us that night Can you feel the spirit in the air Giving hope to people everywhere Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas Hallelujahs echoing tonight Now everything will be alright Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas I know we've seen some times When joy has been so hard to find And life seems to take more than faith But we dreaming heaven's dream And finding hope within our hearts To believe that there's more than we see We looked to the sky Followed the light Love's greatest gift Has come again tonight Can you feel the spirit in the air Giving hope to people everywhere Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas (Hallelujah) Hallelujahs echoing tonight (tonight) Now everything will be alright (be alright) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas There's no greater gift Than the life that you gave All the hatred Rearrange it Spread all the love Spread all the love (the love, the love, the love) Can you feel the spirit in the air (in the air) Giving hope to people everywhere This is Christmas (Hallelujah) Hallelujahs echoing tonight (tonight) Now everything will be alright (be alright) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas (Christmas) Can you feel the spirit in the air Giving hope to people everywhere (giving hope) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas (Christmas) Hallelujahs echoing tonight (tonight) Now everything will be alright (be alright) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas Can you feel Can you feel the spirit in the air Giving hope to people everywhere (everywhere) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas Hallelujahs echoing tonight (tonight) Now everything will be alright (be alright) Celebrate our Savior's here This is Christmas
edna Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 I was actually thinking about the Chuck Berry song (Run Run Rudolph). That´s good, Lucky, so you can nominate it... if you want, of course... I already nominated two "rare" songs and I thought somebody should nominate this amazing almost-classic...
_Laurie_ Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 I'm hoping someone will nominate "Da Boss"...Merry Christmas Baby....
Crazy Don Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 "Snoopy's Christmas" The Royal Guardsmen The news had came out in the First World War The bloody Red Baron was flying once more The Allied Command ignored all of its men And called on Snoopy to do it again 'Twas the night before Christmas and forty below When Snoopy went up in search of his foe He spied the Red Baron and fiercely they fought With ice on his wings he knew he was caught (Chorus 1) Christmas bells those Christmas bells Ringing through the land Asking peace of all the world And good will to men The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights He reached for the trigger to put him tight Why he didn't shoot well we'll never know Or was it the bells from the village below (Chorus 2) Christmas bells those Christmas bells Ringing through the land Bringing peace to all the world And good will to men The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine And forced him to land behind the enemy lines Snoopy was certain that this was the end When the Baron cried out "Merry Christmas, my friend!" The Baron then offered a holiday toast And Snoopy our hero saluted his host And then with a roar they were both on their way Each knowing they'd meet on some other day (Repeat chorus 2 and fade)
Tenacious_Peaches Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Five Pound Box of Money Pearl Bailey Hey Santa Claus, You want to make me happy this year? Listen to me, honey Give Pearl something that would be of some use to me Like a five pound box of money Now there’s a little gift That’s loaded with Lots of sentiment See, when I get blue, Santa I’m gonna think of you But at the same time have a little change to pay my rent Now, money isn’t everything There’s no two ways about it But while we’re here, Santa dear It’s much better with it than without it So really, I could be real good And not do nothin’ funny If you do like I ask you Stop by right on Christmas night And try me, try me, try me on that money Just try me, honey Santa, can you hear me? Have you listened to everything I’ve been asking you about? Listen honey, Santa dear, The New Year would be so bright and sunny Just bring me that simple thing that I’ve been speaking to you about And bring me a five pound box of money That’s all, that’s all It would be so heavenly And help me meet both ends, yes indeed But old Pearl been needin’ bad A five pound box of tens Really, how much could that weigh? I don’t want the whole money tree What good is that big thing to me? You keep the branches, the trunk, and the roots ‘Cause all I want is just a little bit of the fruit So if you wanna be sure I’ll be yours Little old honey, honey bunny You can start me off on Christmas night With a five pound – no, I better increase that, ten pounds No, I better beg big while I’m beggin’ ‘Cause you know, I might not catch you next year ‘Cause sometimes people go out and you don’t see them no more So bring the money Santa! Do you hear me? Christmas in Hollis Run D.M.C. [Run] It was December 24th on Hollis Ave in the dark When I see a man chilling with his dog in the park I approached very slowly with my heart full of fear Looked at his dog, oh my God, an ill reindeer But then I was illin because the man had a beard And a bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared So I turned my head a second and the man had gone But he left and dropped his wallet smack dead on the lawn I picket the wallet up then I took a pause Took out the license and it cold said "Santa Claus" A million dollars in it, cold hundreds of G's Enough to buy a boat and matching car with ease But I'd never steal from Santa, cause that ain't right So I'm going home to mail it back to him that night But when I got home I bugged, cause under the tree Was a letter from Santa and all the dough was for me [D.M.C.] It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheese And Santa put gifts under Christmas trees Decorate the house with lights at night Snow's on the ground, snow white so bright In the fireplace is the yule log Beneath the mistle toe as we drink egg nog The rhymes you hear are the rhymes of Darryl's But each and every year we bust Chrsitmas carrols (Christmas melodies) [Run-D.M.C.] Rhymes so loud and prod you hear it It's Christmas time and we got the spirit Jack Frost chillin, the hawk is out And that's what Christmas is all about The time is now, the place is here And the whole wide world is filled with cheer [D.M.C.] My name's D.M.C. with the mic in my hand And I'm chilling and coolin just like a snowman So open your eyes, lend us an ear We want to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
cyberjudge Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch-Dr. Seuss You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You're as cuddly as a cactus, You're as charming as an eel. Mr. Grinch. You're a bad banana With a greasy black peel. You're a monster, Mr. Grinch. Your heart's an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders, You've got garlic in your soul. Mr. Grinch. I wouldn't touch you, with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole. You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch. You have termites in your smile. You have all the tender sweetness Of a seasick crocodile. Mr. Grinch. Given the choice between the two of you I'd take the seasick crockodile. You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch. You're a nasty, wasty skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks Your soul is full of gunk. Mr. Grinch. The three words that best describe you, are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk." You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch. You're the king of sinful sots. Your heart's a dead tomato splot With moldy purple spots, Mr. Grinch. Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable, Mangled up in tangled up knots. You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch. With a nauseaus super-naus. You're a crooked jerky jockey And you drive a crooked horse. Mr. Grinch. You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool sandwich With arsenic sauce.
Shawna Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Oh yea... nobody nominated this one yet... I thought of it today and remembered it's one of the bounciest Christmas songs and it always makes me smile. Step Into Christmas ~ Elton John
miamisammy29 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 "FATHER CHRISTMAS" - The Kinks When I was small I believed in Santa Claus Though I knew it was my dad And I would hang up my stocking at Christmas Open my presents and I'd be glad But the last time I played Father Christmas I stood outside a department store A gang of kids came over and mugged me And knocked my reindeer to the floor They said: Father Christmas, give us some money Don't mess around with those silly toys. We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over We want your bread so don't make us annoyed Give all the toys to the little rich boys Don't give my brother a Steve Austin outfit Don't give my sister a cuddly toy We don't want a jigsaw or monopoly money We only want the real McCoy Father Christmas, give us some money We'll beat you up if you make us annoyed Father Christmas, give us some money Don't mess around with those silly toys But give my daddy a job 'cause he needs one He's got lots of mouths to feed But if you've got one, I'll have a machine gun So I can scare all the kids down the street Father Christmas, give us some money We got no time for your silly toys We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over We want your bread so don't make us annoyed Give all the toys to the little rich boys Have yourself a merry merry Christmas Have yourself a good time But remember the kids who got nothin' While you're drinkin' down your wine Father Christmas, give us some money We got no time for your silly toys Father Christmas, please hand it over We'll beat you up, so don't make us annoyed Father Christmas, give us some money Don't mess around with those silly toys We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over We want your bread, so don't make us annoyed Give all the toys to the little rich boys
MindCrime Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Honestly, I never heard of 75% of these songs before listening to them here, even though I own albums by the nearly all the artists.
miamisammy29 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 And if by some weird chance the Kinks DON'T win Number One (which would be a complete miscarriage of justice), here's another one I've always liked. It was originally aired on MTV back in the early 80's. It's from Bryan Adams, and it's called... "REGGAE CHRISTMAS" - Bryan Adams Every year I get the same feel Christmas come I wanna pack my backs and flee wanna get away from New York Wanna find another place to be, So... We're having a reggae christmas - down in Jamaica we're having a good time too Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you Christmas is nice in Germany if you like being up to your knees in snow it's just as cold up in Canada we gotta find another place to go So... so we're having a reggae christmas - down in Jamaica We're having a good time too. Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you. And so now we're down in Kingstontown but I get that someday I know gonna meet my friends down in Kingston town and those good times gonna rock and those good times gonna roll. We're having a reggae christmas - down in jamaica we're having a good time too. Hey man, we're having a reggae christmas a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you we're having a reggae christmas - down in jamaica we're having a good time too hey man, we're having reggae christmas a merry christmad and a reggae new year A merry christmas and a reggae new year a merry christmas and a reggae new year to you
Jenny Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Is "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses eligible? If so, I choose that one to nominate.
DBrown Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus is coming to town
Shawna Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Not sure that's one's eligible, Danny... it's a take on an old traditional...
_Laurie_ Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I think you're right about that Shawna...Danny you could always nominate "Merry Christmas Baby" by Bruce Springsteen...That would definitely get my vote!
DBrown Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Is Winter Wonderland a traditional song?
Farin Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 if "Santa Claus is coming to town" is considered traditional, then "Winter Wonderland" certainly is too
Viaene Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 What's this? - Michael Franti, Gabriel Rios & Flip Kowlier What's this? What's this? There's color everywhere What's this? There's white things in the air What's this? I can't believe my eyes I must be dreaming Wake up, jack, this isn't fair What's this? What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong What's this? There are people singing songs What's this? The streets are lined with Little creatures laughing Everybody seems so happy Have I possibly gone daffy? What is this? What's this? There are children throwing snowballs here instead of throwing heads They're busy building toys And absolutely no one's dead There's frost on every window Oh, I can't believe my eyes And in my bones I feel the warmth That's coming from inside Oh, look What's this? They're hanging mistletoe, they kiss Why that looks so unique, inspired They're gathering around to hear a story Roasting chestnuts on a fire What's this? What's this? In here they've got a little tree, how queer And who would ever think And why? They're covering it with tiny little things They've got electric lights on strings And there's a smile on everyone So, now, correct me if I'm wrong This looks like fun This looks like fun Oh, could it be I got my wish? What's this? Oh my, what now? The children are asleep But look, there's nothing underneath No ghouls, no witches here to scream and scare them Or ensnare them, only little cozy things Secure inside their dreamland What's this? The monsters are all missing And the nightmares can't be found And in their place there seems to be Good feeling all around Instead of screams, I swear I can hear music in the air The smell of cakes and pies Is absolutely everywhere The sights, the sounds They're everywhere and all around I've never felt so good before This empty place inside of me is filling up I simply cannot get enough I want it, oh, I want it Oh, I want it for my own I've got to know I've got to know What is this place that I have found? What is this? Christmas Town, hmm...
Dappled Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Believe - Josh Groban Children sleeping, snow is softly falling Dreams are calling, like bells in the distance We were dreamers not so long ago But one by one we all had to grow up When it seems the magic's slipped away We find it all again on Christmas day Believe in what your heart is saying Hear the melody that's playing There's no time to waste There's so much to celebrate Believe in what you feel inside And give your dreams the wings to fly You have everything you need If you just believe Trains move quickly to their journey's end Destinations are where we begin again Ships go sailing far across the sea Trusting starlight to get where they need to be When it seems that we have lost our way We find ourselves again on Christmas day Believe in what your heart is saying Hear the melody that's playing There's no time to waste There's so much to celebrate Believe in what you feel inside And give your dreams the wings to fly You have everything you need If you just believe If you just believe If you just believe If you just believe Just believe Just believe

Farin Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Can I change one of my nominations to something by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? (Unless somebody else know who they are and would like to nominate them) fine with me
Shawna Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Can I change one of my nominations to something by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra? (Unless somebody else know who they are and would like to nominate them) I love them!! I would have nominated their best known song, I think it's "Christmas In Sarajevo," but I thought the music was traditional... but man do they do a crazy good version of it.
