edna
"I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" - Roy Wood When the snowman brings the snow Well he just might like to know He's put a great big smile on sombody's face If you jump into your bed Quikly cover up your head Don't you lock the doors You know that sweet santa clause is on the way (chorus) Well I wish it could be christmas everyday when the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be christmas everyday So let the bells ring out for christmas When your skating in the park If the snow cloud makes it dark Then your rosy cheeks are gonna light my merry way Now the frosty paws appear And they've frozen up my ear So we'll lie by the fire Till the sleet simply knocks 'em all the way (chorus) Well I wish it could be christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be christmas every day So let the bells ring out for christmas When the snow man brings the snow(snowman brings the snow) Well he just might like to know(just might like to know) He's put a great big smile on somebody's face So if santa brings that sleigh(santa brings that sleigh) Along the milky way(along the milky way) I'll sign my name on the rooftop in the snow Then he may decide to stay (chorus) Well I wish it could be christmas everyday When the kids start singing and the band begins to play Oh I wish it could be christmas everyday So let the bells ring out for christmas

Lea
My first Nomination: I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake They said there'll be snow at Christmas, They said there'll be peace on earth, But instead it just kept on raining, A veil of tears for the Virgin birth. I remember one Christmas morning, The Winter's light and a distant choir, And the peal of a bell and that Christmas tree smell, And eyes full of tinsel and fire. They sold me a dream of Christmas, They sold me a silent night, They told me a fairy story, 'Til I believed in the Israelite. And I believed in Father Christmas, And I looked to the sky with excited eyes, Then I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn, And I saw him and through his disguise. I wish you a hopeful Christmas, I wish you a brave New Year, All anguish, pain and sadness, Leave your heart and let your road be clear. They said there'd be snow at Christmas, They said there'd be peace on earth, Hallelujah! Noel!, be it Heaven or Hell, The Christmas we get, we deserve. _Laurie_
Happy Xmas (War Is Over) ~ John Lennon And so this is Christmas, and what have you done? Another year over, and a new one just begun. And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun, The near and the dear ones, the old and the young. A very Merry Christmas, And a Happy New Year. Let's hope it's a good one, Without any fear. And so this is Christmas, for weak and for strong, For rich and for poor ones, the road is so long. And so happy Christmas, for black and for white, For yellow and red ones, let's stop all the fight. A very Merry Christmas, And a Happy New Year. Let's hope it's a good one, Without any fear. So this is Christmas, and what have you done? Another year over, and a new one just begun. And so happy Christmas, I hope you have fun, The near and the dear ones, the old and the young. MindCrime
Do They Know It's Christmas? ~ Band Aid It's Christmastime There's no need to be afraid At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime But say a prayer Pray for the other ones At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun There's a world outside your window And it's a world of dread and fear Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime The greatest gift they'll get this year is life (Oooh) Where nothing ever grows No rain nor rivers flow Do they know it's Christmastime at all? (Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone (Here's to them) underneath that burning sun Do they know it's Christmastime at all? LeeBB
Well, I would probably vote for John Lennon, but here is a very personal fave... Paul Kelly's "How To Make Gravy": Hello Dan, it's Joe here I hope you're keeping well Its the 21st of December now theyre ringing the last bell if I get good behaviour I'll be out of here by July Won't you kiss my kids on Christmas day Please don't let them cry for me I guess the brothers are driving down from Queensland and Stella's flying in from the coast They say it's gonna be a hundred degrees, even more maybe, but that won't stop the roast Who's gonna make the gravy now? I bet it won't taste the same Just add flour, salt, a little red wine and don't forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang And give my love to Angus and to Frank and Dolly, Tell 'em all I'm sorry I screwed up this time And look after Rita, I'll be thinking of her early Christmas morning When I'm standing in line I hear Mary's got a new boyfriend, I hope he can hold his own Do you remember the last one? What was his name again? (Just a little too much cologne) And Roger, you know I'm even gonna miss Roger 'Cause there's sure as hell no one in here I want to fight Oh praise the Baby Jesus, have a Merry Christmas, I'm really gonna miss it, all the treasure and the trash And later in the evening, I can just imagine, You'll put on Junior Murvin and push the tables back And you'll dance with Rita, I know you really like her, Just don't hold her too close, oh brother please don't stab me in the back I didn't mean to say that, it's just my mind it plays up, Multiplies each matter, turns imagination into fact You know I love her badly, she's the one to save me, I'm gonna make some gravy, I'm gonna taste the fat Tell her that I'm sorry, yeah I love her badly, tell 'em all I'm sorry, And kiss the sleepy children for me You know one of these days, I'll be making gravy, I'll be making plenty, I'm gonna pay 'em all back. cyberjudge
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer-Elmo & Patsy Grandma got run over by a reindeer Walking home from our house Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog, And we'd begged her not to go. But she'd left her medication, So she stumbled out the door into the snow. When they found her Christmas mornin', At the scene of the attack, There were hoof prints on her forehead, And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back. Grandma got run over by a reindeer, Walkin' home from our house Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. Now we're all so proud of Grandpa, He's been takin' this so well. See him in there watchin' football, Drinkin' beer and playin' cards with Cousin Nell. It's not Christmas without Grandma. All the family's dressed in black. And we just can't help but wonder: Should we open up her gifts or send them back? SEND THEM BACK! Grandma got run over by a reindeer, Walkin' home from our house Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. Now the goose is on the table And the pudding made of fig. (ahhhhhh) And a blue and silver candle, That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig. I've warned all my friends and neighbours. Better watch out for yourselves. They should never give a license, To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves. Sing it Grandpa! Grandma got run over by a reindeer, Walkin' home from our house, Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. edna
"Merry Christmas Everybody" - Slade Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall? It's the time that every Santa has a ball Does he ride a red nosed reindeer? Does a 'ton up' on his sleigh Do the fairies keep him sober for a day? So here it is merry Christmas Everybody's having fun Look to the future now It's only just begun Are you waiting for the family to arrive? Are you sure you got the room to spare inside? Does your granny always tell ya that the old are the best? Then she's up and rock 'n' rollin' with the rest So here it is merry Christmas Everybody's having fun Look to the future now It's only just begun What will your daddy do When he sees your Mama kissin' Santa Claus? Ah ah Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall? Are you hoping that the snow will start to fall? Do you ride on down the hillside in a buggy you have made? When you land upon your head then you've been slayed So here it is merry Christmas Everybody's having fun Look to the future now It's only just begun

Viaene
I hope Fin didn't mention that he was gonna nominate this: Christmas - The Who Father: Did you ever see the faces of the children They get so excited. Waking up on christmas morning Hours before the winter suns ignited. They believe in dreams and all they mean Including heavens generosity. Peeping round the door to see what parcels are for free In curiosity. And Tommy doesn't know what day it is. He doesn't know who Jesus was or what praying is. How can he be saved? From the eternal grave. Surrounded by his friends he sits so silently, And unaware of everything. Playing poxy pin ball picks his nose and smiles and Pokes his tongue at everything. I believe in love but how can men who've never seen Light be enlightened. Only if he's cured will his spirits future level ever heighten. And Tommy doesn't know what day it is. He doesn't know who Jesus was or what praying is. How can he be saved? From the eternal grave. Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Can you hear me? How can he be saved? Tommy: See me, feel me Touch me, heal me. See me, feel me Touch me, heal me! Fahter: Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Tommy can you hear me? Can you--Can you--Can you hear me? How can he be saved? Did you ever see the faces of the children They get so excited. Lucky
That is a cover of a Darlene Love song that was released in 1963, also this song was produced by Phil Spector. The Original Version I knew it! Yes Kenne, it's a cover, as is Laurie's Eagles nomination. I checked with Martin before posting, because I knew someone would hit me with this. We decided the original is old & obscure enough that we can consider these original. They are in keeping with the spirit of the thought. Basically, what we're looking for is not just another cover or remake of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, or some such. I guess we should have said rather than strictly original, what we want is non-traditional. Is that ok with everyone? If not, I can withdraw U2 and do something else ....
