I went against what I said earlier (about voting for the ones I know). I know very few of these albums, so I mixed it up a bit. I chose some from my heart and some from the cases made by the more knowledgeable songfactors.

Oooo yeah... I'm gonna need some time to read back through all the nominations. This time I've decided I'm going to vote based on how influential I think they were... since I'm not familiar with a lot of them, it'll come down to the best description, I suppose. sort of like the plaintiff/defendant with the best lawyer wins.

I didn't put much of an effort into my description of Tommy because I thought I was in more of a hurry than I really was, but you all know how very groundbreaking the album was anyway, right? If you don't, I have failed in my function as an SFer :shades:

Fin, "Tommy" is an institution :shades: We all know about that. You didn´t have to make any effort because yes, we all know how very groundbreaking the album was... ;)

It's not easy to vote for the most ground-breaking albums regardless of whether they paved the way for something I actually like or not, but I tried my best.

groundbreaking (adj):

Synonyms: revolutionary, innovative, pioneering, radical, trailblazing, brand-new, cutting-edge, leading-edge

Antonym: old hat

1. After School Session - Chuck Berry

2. Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley

3. Are You Experienced? - The Jimi Hendrix

4. Tommy - The Who

5. Sweetheart of the Rodeo - The Byrds

6. Complete Recordings, The - Robert Johnson

7. Saturday Night Fever: The Original Movie Soundtrack

8. Thriller - Michael Jackson

9. Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan

10. Beauty and the Beat - Go-Go’s

I tried to apply the definition to each album, and consider it the context of the time it was released. I wish I could have voted for some of the newer releases, but I honestly don't know them, so I don't know how they fit the definition.

So much switching around

I'd have liked to vote for a post-rock nomination, but I think Slint were faaaaaaaaaaaar more influential than Godspeed You! and Explosions in the Sky. Slint had formed, recorded and disbanded by 1991 before these two bands even existed.

1. The Complete Recordings - Robert Johnson... in his era, he had no peers when it comes to guitar expertise, songwriting ability and singing. He created a higher plateau for all musicians to strive for.

2. Are You Experience - Jimi Hendrix... a Visionary. This album opened a new avenue on the rock 'n roll superhighway.

3. After School Session - Chuck Berry... all the '60s groups learned from the master.

4. Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley...synthysized the '50s country, r&b and blues musicians for mass appeal.

5. Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan...expanding the bounds of acoustic introspection and electrifying the envelope of folk-rock.

6. Catch a Fire - Bob Marley & the Wailers...what intricate harmonies and storytelling.

7. Saturday Night Fever - Original Soundtrack...widened the disco appeal by tenfold.

8. Sweetheart of the Rodeo - The Byrds...Gram, Roger, Chris, Clarence - brilliant country rock.

9. Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
