skybluesky 0
I know Phil COllins is vilified around here, but the drums in "In the Air Tonight" are spectacular.
Foolonthehill 0
I would never villify Phil Collins as a drummer, he was an integral part of what was possibly the best band in the world at that time. He just can't come close to Peter Gabriel on the lead vocals front.
Foolonthehill 0
Yeah "One Word" is the one with the crazy drumming, I just checked. I agree about Carl Palmer. Rush's drummer, Neil Peart, plays some great fills. Check out 2112, the second segment in particular.

lonelyday 0
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Uni pretty much ate me whole this semester and still hasn't quite spat me out yet, but I've made a list so now I can hunt down these songs and start listening
Udo 0
Dreams by the Cranberries features some excellent cacophonic percussion.
Heard It On The XM 0
I would never villify Phil Collins as a drummer, he was an integral part of what was possibly the best band in the world at that time. He just can't come close to Peter Gabriel on the lead vocals front. Or the songwriting front, for that matter. Back on topic, don't forget the drum solo in Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Also, someone mentioned "Moby Dick", but an even better John Bonham drum song is "Bonzo's Montreux" (from the Coda album). And I'm not sure if this counts, but Frank Beard is tapping his drumsticks on something (probably the edge of one of his drums) during the first part of ZZ Top's "LaGrange". JumboXL 0
Keith Moon in Happy Jack, by The Who, my favourite. Check out Cozy Powell too, for example: Dance with the devil.
