Tenacious_Peaches
Ron's "Greatest Hits Album" got me thinking about tribute albums. Some are good, some are bad, some are downright fantastic. What are some of your favorites? This is a fantastic tribute album and one of my personal favorites. It's got a ska feel to it and the interpretations are alternately hilarious and danceable. CanAm
NOT FADE AWAY (Remembering Buddy Holly) Peggy Sue Got Married - Buddy Holly & The Hollies True Love Ways - The Mavericks Well...All Right - Nancy Griffith Midnight Shift - Los Lobos Not Fade Away - The Band/The Crickets Think It Over - The Tractors Wishing - Mary Chapin Carpenter/Kevin Montgomery Oh Boy - Joe Ely & Todd Snider Crying, Waiting, Hoping - Marty Stuart & Steve Earle It Doesn't Matter Anymore - Suzy Bogguss & Dave Edmunds Maybe Baby - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Learning The Game - Waylon Jennings Although all the songs are relatively faithful to the originals, the artists nicely created their own refreshing interpretations. Although I like all the tunes, my favourites are the rollicking version of Oh Boy, the beautiful harmony in Wishing, the NGDB's lyrical version of Maybe Baby and the Hollies take of Peggy Sue Got Married which nicely utilizes the original Buddy Holly vocal track. katie_sane
This one is actually pretty ordinary, but I just wanted to mention my beloved Ramones. We're A Happy Family: A Tribute To The Ramones 1. Havana Affair - Red Hot Chili Peppers 2. Blitzkrieg Bop - Rob Zombie 3. I Believe in Miracles - Eddie Vedder & Zeke 4. 53rd & 3rd - Metallica 5. Beat on the Brat - U2 6. Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio? - KISS 7. The KKK Took My Baby Away - Marilyn Manson 8. I Just Wanna Have Something To Do - Garbage 9. Outsider - Green Day 10. Something to Believe In - The Pretenders 12. Sheena Is a Punk Rocker - Rancid 13. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - Pete Yorn 14. I Wanna Be Sedated - The Offspring 15. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow - Rooney 16. Return of Jackie & Judy - Tom Waits 17. Daytime Dilemma (Dangers of Love) - Eddie Vedder & Zeke1 Tracks 17-19 each contain 10 seconds of silence 20. Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World - John Frusciante (hidden track) Artwork by Rob Zombie and liner notes by Stephen King. Most of the covers on this album are lacklusture copies of the originals. The standouts are the versions by Kiss, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Waits. Some big names on this tribute, but no bang, unfortunately. Levis
I was waiting for someone to mention that... I have the Ramones tribute album and I really like it. I'm not a fan of Green Day or the Offspring but their versions of Outsider and I Wanna be Sedated aren't too bad I think it's a very good album
katie_sane
But why listen to an ordinary cover of those songs when you could listen to the fantastic, sneering originals? If I am going to listen to covers, I want them to be inspired, not insipid

Jenny
One of my faves: Two Rooms: A Tribute to the Music of Elton John and Bernie Taupin 1. Border Song - Eric Clapton 2. Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long, Long Time) - Kate Bush 3. Come Down In Time - Sting 4. Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) - The Who 5. Crocodile Rock - Beach Boys 6. Daniel - Wilson Phillips 7. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - Joe Cocker 8. Levon - Jon Bon Jovi 9. The Bitch Is Back - Tina Turner 10. Philadelphia Freedom - Daryl Hall And John Oates 11. Your Song - Rod Stewart 12. Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Oleta Adams 13. Madman Across The Water - Bruce Hornsby 14. Sacrifice - Sinead O'Connor 15. Burn Down The Mission - Phil Collins 16. Tonight - George Michael The title refers to the fact that the songwriters work separately (Elton writes music to Bernie's lyrics). Believe it or not, Jon Bon Jovi does a great job on "Levon", and The Who sound like they were the original artists of "Saturday Night's.....". Oh, and in the middle of the song, they sneak in a chorus of "Take Me To The Pilot". Now, I have to go dig this out and give it another listen.
