RonJonSurfer
We've probably done this already, but what is your favorite(s)"Greatest Hits" or "Best Of" album. I know that they are considered of less importance because they are usually a collection of hits or semi hits....but I like 'em and everybody owns them. I have to nominate CCR's Chronicle Vol 1. Personally I think John Fogerty's CCR is the best American band ever...I know Eagles fans dispute this, but CCR is just fantastic. Look at this album line-up: 1. Susie Q 2. I Put A Spell On You 3. Proud Mary 4. Bad Moon Rising 5. Lodi 6. Green River 7. Commotion 8. Down On The Corner 9. Fortunate Son 10. Travelin' Band 11. Who'll Stop The Rain 12. Up Around The Bend 13. Run Through The Jungle 14. Lookin' Out My Back Door 15. Long As I Can See The Light 16. I Heard It Through The Grapevine 17. Have You Ever Seen The Rain? 18. Hey Tonight 19. Sweet Hitch-Hiker 20. Someday Never Comes Yikes!! It's almost an unbelievable collection of classics. I'm sure there are many other favorites of this genre out there..what are they? The Seeker
One of my favourites is the Essential Collection by the Small Faces. They left out some of the early hits like All or Nothing and Sha La La La Lee, but put most of Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake instead, which to me is just as good. This collection got me into the Small Faces... I saw it in a CD shop and liked the cover. 1. Here Comes The Nice 2. I Can't Make It 3. Itchycoo Park 4. Tin Soldier 5. I Feel Much Better 6. Lazy Sunday 7. Wham Bam, Thank You, Mam 8. Wide Eyed Girl On The Wall 9. Something I Want To Tell You 10. Things Are Going To Get Better 11. Donkey Rides, Penny A Glass 12. Green Circles 13. (Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me 14. Long Agos & Worlds Apart 15. Don’T Burst My Bubble 16. I’M Only Dreaming 17. Up The Wooden Hills To Bedfordshire 18. Ogden’S Nut Gone Flake 19. Happiness Stan 20. Rollin’ Over 21. Hungry Intruder 22. Journey 23. Mad John 24. Happy Days Toy Town 25. Get Yourself Together 26. Universal 27. Red Balloon 28. Eddie’S Dreaming 29. Autumn Stone 30. Talk To You 31. All Our Yesterdays 32. Happy Boys Happy 33. My Way Of Giving 34. Rene 35. Just Passing 36. Afterglow (Of Your Love) Now, I can't forget The Who, can I? There are several greatest hits albums, and they're all pretty similar... but Then and Now is the newest and it's got two songs from 2002 on it. There are all the obvious hits on there too. 1. I Can't Explain 2. My Generation 3. The Kids Are Alright 4. Substitute 5. I'm A Boy 6. Happy Jack 7. I Can See For Miles 8. Magic Bus 9. Pinball Wizard 10. See Me, Feel Me 11. Summertime Blues 12. Behind Blue Eyes 13. Won't Get Fooled Again 14. 5:15 15. Love Reign O'er Me 16. Squeeze Box 17. Who Are You 18. You Better You Bet 19. Real Good Looking Boy 20. Old Red Wine
Levis
Soul Asylum - their Black Gold collection. It has 4 unreleased tracks as well. Including one super secret one that you can't even find lyrics to. But they are very good songs And I think it's quite comprehensive in terms of picking up their best songs. 1. Just Like Anyone 2. Cartoon 3. Closer To The Stars (Live) 4. Somebody To Shove 5. Close 6. String Of Pearls 7. Tied To The Tracks 8. Runaway Train 9. Sometime To Return 10. Misery 11. We 3 12. Without A Trace 13. I Will Still Be Laughing 14. Black Gold 15. Summer Of Drugs 16. Candy From A Stranger 17. Stranger (Live) 18. Can't Even Tell 19. Lonely For You Apart from that, Kula Shaker's Kollected is excellent too. It's where I first heard their cover of Ballad of a Thin Man. And three of their best B-sides. It misses out some good songs of course, but it's picked up the biggest and the best, otherwise.

edna
I have to nominate CCR's Chronicle Vol 1. This is one of my fave albums, and of course, the best compilation I know. I bought it on vinyl twice, though I had all CCR´s LPs and finally bought the cd. "The best of Otis Redding" (double LP) and... ABBA Gold!!
