I spray the air in front of me, then walk into it. I also spray on my wrists and use my wrists to rub each side of my neck.

I only wear perfume for parties or maybe for an anniversary or such....I'm so not a girly-girl.

Sorry it's not as sexy as Radhi's way, Mark....

I had thought about putting this in the "Ask The Opposite Sex" thread, but I need to ask my same sex a question.

How the heck much perfume should you wear for it to be noticeable?

I have not ever had anyone comment on the perfume I'm wearing, good, bad, or ugly. So I finally said something at work, and my sister said, "Maybe it's because you never wear any." And when I said, "but I do," she said she has never been able to detect any.

So what do you do? Take a bath in it? I've always been more paranoid of putting on so much that it suffocates people.

Shawna, it may be the type of perfume as someone earlier on had said...strong perfumes you only need to apply to your wrist instead of all over.....

A few more helpful hints....apply your perfume before you dress..perfumes absorb into the material, so it will seem like you have too much on...

Perfumed body lotions and musk oils are nice...lotions are lighter and then you can re-apply it during the day...I have a jasmine musk oil that I love and a little bit last for a long time...

I agree with you Laurie about the scented body lotions, you can use them throughout the day. Best to apply after a bath or shower all over your body and then use on your hands throughout the day. Not only do you smell nice, but your skin is getting soft and silky from the lotions. And who doesn't like silky soft skin?? :D

I like the perfumes in the cans. I think it lasts longer and isn't so overwhelming as the wet spray. It has a lighter scent I think. Unfortunately my store stopped selling my favorite (Sunflower) so I don't wear it much anymore because I can't find any I like. I like natural scents like vanilla or a lite flower sent.

I go by the rule that if I can still smell it then so can everyone else. I very rarely put it on more then once and usually just put a light spray on my chest and a little on my wrists before I get dressed. If I wear anything at all. (of course I mean perfume :D)

Personally I think women that slathers the stuff all over themselves are rude. To me perfume is a personal thing. You want the person who may be standing right beside you to be able to smell it but not the whole room :D

Just a note, body lotions aren't as strong as perfumes, that's why I like them and if you use them after the bath or shower by the time you are dressed and set to go, there is just a faint scent...which is the best.

Very true Jane. I meant Perfume and the like. Some women smell like they took a bath in the stuff. Lotions, powders and some of the other scented products they have out are quite different. I love those.

Spray on perfume tho is sometimes way over used I'm sure you have been around women that do that. My daughter sometimes over does it. She thinks if she likes it...

my kid is a good one to have for picking out perfumes. Last night we were at Dillard's, and I wanted to sample a couple of different ones. Two of them he said, "Smells like something a grandma would wear." He's nothing if not honest.

Then again, this is the kid who thinks that I would look great wearing Bam's brand skater shoes.

I prefer natural smelling hair and just the slightest hint of perfume. Spray it on the collar of your shirt or in case of a dress then the shoulders. If it's a thin strap gown, go with a tiny spritz above cleavage. Trust me, guys will notice, chix won't.

I'm gonna ask a SFer: Who do I nag constantly day and night week after week to get a piano-playing smiley dude? We have a drummer (thank god) and a guitarist... all we need is the piano man! What type of love song does Meat Loaf, Elton, Billy Joel or others have without the piano? It's a staple for bands like Floyd, Boston, Supertramp... c'mon! Give us some piano-lovin graemlins!

Ray good choice going for the cleavage, that works great as does the thigh area...but I would save that for maybe the second date! :D

Well, I'm talkin about how high you can put it so people will smell it. Perfumes tend to dissipate faster on skin because of the body's natural smell. That's why you have to put it on your clothes. Men tend to put too much on and it's always on their chin and cheeks (aftershave) so it doesn't dissipate quickly enough. Unlike deodorant! Men should shave for a date 4 hours before going out and use as little aftershave as possible (unscented if possible!) and dab cologne on their lapels. Women should spray 1 quick dose to either side of their dress. If strapless, then either one at the cleaveage or one at either side of the breast (near the arms). Perfumes simply don't last as long against the skin.

I worked as an inventory control specialist. My entire day was spent in front of a computer and answering the phone from our store employees who were having some sort of problem... oh yeah, did I mention that it was for 8 major store chains across Canada that sold women's wear?

That's not where I learned that bit of wisdom however. :neener:

It was actually my grandmother who was telling me about how she hated when one of my aunt's always showed up smelling as though she had gone swimming in perfume. Then she told me how her mother explained about putting on perfume. I later found out about the strapless dress part from an ex-girlfriend of mine. She was quite well-refined and knew that walking into a room reeking of perfume makes you seem like a hooker rather than a charming young lady. That's why less is always more!
