My last Piranha died  :(

EDIT

Nope he is just sick. I took him from his big tank and put him in a more controlled environment.

I'm not really sure if he is sick or just really old for his breed. They were about the size of a nickle when we got them about ten years ago.

I don't know what their life span is in captivity and the pet shops aren't sure either. They think maybe seven years or go.

I tried looking online but have never found anything about their life cycle.

We lost 3 about 2 months ago so we figured it was just a matter of time for him.

Because he is the last one, I've grown attached

I HAVE HAD LOTS OF FISH, AND IT IS EASY TO GET ATTACHED TO THE ONES THAT LIVE A LONG TIME. LEA, WAS THIS AN ACTUAL PIRANHA, OR WAS IT A PACU? EITHER WAY, I AM GLAD HE IS NO LONGER CIRCLING THE DRAIN.

He is a red belly meat eater Marc. We have owned them off and on for years.

The first group we lost many years ago because we made the mistake of putting them in the feeder tank when we were cleaning out their tank.

As a rule they are very easy keepers and other then being a bit shy and easily spooked they are awesome and very pretty :D

They get a bad rap in the movies and it's to bad. I have been putting my hands and arms in their tank for years and they just move to the other end. They aren't really as aggresive as the movies make them out to be.

Now if I had cuts on my hands or they were starving or acting weird I most likely wouldn't put my hands in their tank. Under normal circumstances it isn't really an unsafe thing to do.

My guy seems to be doing a bit better since I moved him into a smaller tank and added medicine to the water. If I can get him to eat tonight he might pull through. I haven't been able to get him to eat the last 3 times I tried.

Like I say, he is quite old so...we'll just have to wait and see. At least he still has his teeth ;)This could be his twin brother :D

They were legal when we bought them but I'm not sure if they still are.

When we go our first ones years ago, you could buy them in WA state but you couldn't keep them there. However, you could keep them in OR but you couldn't buy them here. When we got the last one's it was the reverse.

Very weird huh

You're right, Muzik... it's just that the landlord won't let me live here if we don't pay. In order to pay, we need the scanner so my husband can work on his designs...

my favorite local Chinese take out place went out of business. I went there this afternoon and they were dismantling the place. Luckily there are a number of others in the area. I went to a one that has been around forever, but I never tried it...it was very good.

We're taking little Carolina, the cutest and coolest little cat to the vet to be spayed today. I'm worried as I'll be working all day and it's my husband who will have to take her home this afternoon... and take good care of her... and I sort of don't trust a men when it comes to give a pill to a kitty... :P

Anyways, I hate to see my pets go through surgery... :P they are animals, they can' t complain or tell "it aches here"...

God shouldn't have been cruel with female cats too, they suffer a lot when they are in heat.

The people across the street who put their trash in our trash cans when we set them out on the curb to be picked up. Look, if you're such a slob that you have too much trash for your bins, please don't dump them in ours. We're not slobs.

My little kitty isn't doing that well... she's down and won't drink... My other little cat had the same reaction when she was spayed and we had to bring her back to the vet, there was some complications. Ratosita, the big one, came from the vet and jumped on the food and water and then on the table... she was in such shape... I hoped this little one would react the same way but it looks like I'll have to take her back to the vet tomorrow.

It's crazy, I never wanted pets but now they are here and I love this little furry ball...

Oh, she's fine this morning... :) thanks to your wishes... ;) she woke up jumping and trying to fight with the other cat, she eats and drinks... :) she'll be a bit pissed off for a week or two but now no more cat in heat... :)

Thank you Lissy and Marc... :)

Edna my vet told me smaller animals sometimes have a harder time with the procedure the larger breeds.

One of our Jack Russel's had a terrible time with it. It took her days to get back to normal. My new kitten however, was just as onry when he got back home as he was when he left

I'm happy to hear your little kitten is feeling better today :)
