Right about at this point in my playlist I'm feeling real sorry for myself and questioning my decision to live in a high-rise building. The balcony is just too easy of a way out. (kidding) I have more sad songs than just these and I like all of them whether I'm sad or not. I usually get out of these moods by listening to something fast that doesn't require much thought like Motley Crue, Van Halen, Ratt, or Quiet Riot. Hard to be sad when you're trying to "Come on (and) feel the noise".

On another post there was a question about good songs to have sex to. I had two songs, now I have all these sad songs. Something's not right about a ratio like that.

This is a better subject than the other one about songs that make you cry... I think there's three of these topics floating around, but I'll post in this one.

Top 10 sad songs to-day:

1. "Flowers" by Rozz Williams (saddest song ever written, imo)

2. "But, What Ends When The Symbols Shatter?" by Death In June

3. "Louise" by Clan Of Xymox

4. "A Strange Day" by The Cure

5. "Never Never" by The Assembly

6. "In A Manner Of Speaking" by Tuxedomoon (this one will always be listed)

7. "Asleep" by The Smiths

8. "Oproffesionell" by Kent (the whole Isola album is depressing... the Swedish version is even more depressing than the English one)

9. "Leaving" by Suede

10. "Wild Is The Wind" by David Bowie

Man Over - Robinella and the CCstringband.

About a man consumed by alcohol. Being a recovering alcoholic, it made me break down the first time I heard it.

It captured the despair and hopelessness I felt for so many years in about 3 minutes.

When I'm sad, I usually listen to happy songs to bring my mood up. But here are some sad songs.

Tears in Heaven - Clapton (that song gets me every time...I start to tear when I hear it)

Closing Time - Semisonic (It was on when my Dad was on the way to see my Grampa for the last time.)

Lightning Crashes - Live

Lots of Neil Young is sad. He's good at sad songs.

Hurt - the Johnny Cash version

There'll be sad songs to make you cry ... loves songs often do ... and I can't remember the rest of that song.

Anyway my sad songs are, among others:

Victory Is Won - Santana

Amber Changing - Rise Against

Creep - Radiohead

Heart of Gold - Neil Young

Yesterday - The Beatles

Days of the Phoenix - AFI

Fade - Staind

Total Bummer - NOFX

Into The Dead Sky - At The Gates

You Are Not Alone - Nobuo Uematsu (well, he composed it, anyway ... it's from Final Fantasy IX for the PSX)

And more I can't think of ... I'm at work and my collection's at home.

One song that gets me every time is Meatloaf?s ?Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Actually Are?. The beginning part is about his best friend (who has the same name as me) dying. In the video it featured him testing a homemade one-man airplane & it crashed into a tree as it lifted off the ground. Then he goes into how his father abused him as a child "My father's eyes went blank as he hit me again & again & again? Finally the ending of the song is about a long lost love who he lost his virginity to. The video showed him with her having passionate affairs in the backseat of his car (which he refers to as ?backseat like a Romeo?. Then he goes back into town to visit the old house, but an old man shakes his head with incredulity, as he appeared to be asking about her. I could personally identify with the portrayed essentials throughout the song and video & relate them to experiences in my personal life.

Another one that makes me sad is Creedence Clearwater Revival - Someday Never Comes. It deals with the loss of his dad, & embarking upon the things he did for him during their time together. My father played this for me when I was a kid & gave me a hug as he was explaining the meaning behind the song to me. It makes me really think about being under-appreciative & taking my parents decisions & judgments for granted during my childhood every time I hear the opener ?First thing I remember was askin? papa, why?, For there were many things I didn?t know. And daddy always smiled; took me by the hand, Sayin?, someday you?ll understand.?

One of the tracks from Tom Petty?s album Into the Great Wide Open, called For All the Wrong Reasons reminds me of a girl that I was once in love with, that vanished without a trace, I still think of her to this day. Nirvana's version of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" as well as Type O' Negative - Unsuccessfully Sleeping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity remind me of my ex-fiance & it re-opens a welding scar. There was an R&B song in 1994, sang by a group about missing their mother, I'm not sure who sings it, as I haven't heard it in a long time.

Surprisingly (or not), Smokey Robinson's "Tears Of A Clown" always struck me as a really sad song. I recall talking about how I liked it and suddenly I began to stumble in my words because my throat dried and I began to choke up  I also kinda liked that old cheezy tune by Gilbert O'Sullivan "Alone Again (Naturally)" as well as The Guess Who's "These Eyes." Coincidentally, all three are about sadness that comes from past loves who left.

"The Thrill Is Gone" by B.B. King

Damn. That IS a sad song. I have a cover of that by Patricia Barber from the Lady Sings The Blues compilation and it's good. I can't help to wallow a bit in their beautiful misery :beatnik:

"Wicked Game" (and other songs) by Chris Isaak

Ooo yeah :beatnik:

This guy makes sadness sound sexy. He's made a career at not being able to keep women around :elvis:
