here's a thread about all things Christmas! Give your opinions on Christmas, memories of Christmas, anything!

Today, I saw something that really encapsulated the commercialism of Christmas. There was a guy oustide a loans office, dressed up like Santa, and he was holding a sign that pointing into the loans office that said "loan consolidation" and he was listening to his ipod and talking on his cell phone.

My memories of Christmas are of watching christmas television specials with my family.

Our favorites every year were:

> Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (loved Yukon Cornelius and The Abominable Snowman, even though he frightened me)

> Frosty The Snowman

> Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (loved Winter Warlock and Burgermeister Meisterburger)

The Year Without A Santa Claus (loved Heat Miser and Snow Miser, they were cool!)

> How The Grinch Stole Christmas

> A Charlie Brown Christmas

> Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol

Also loved to go sleigh-riding as long as we had snow for christmas (which we usually did). :)

And my Dad would always make a roast with Yorkshire Pudding (yummy!) :)

Oh, and waking up Christmas morning to see all the presents under the tree (unwrapped, back in the 60's, which is how I liked it so I could see all of my presents at the same time and didn't have to waste time unwrapping them). :)

And then I would remember about my stocking and would run to it to check out all the goodies that Santa brought me (seeing as how I left him some cookies and milk and carrots for the reindeer.) =:P

Thanks, Batman. :coolio:

You just brought some wonderful Christmas memories for me! :)

Santa Wars as deposed British world champ fumes

LONDON (AFP) - The British Father Christmas who lost his Santa of the Year world crown has lashed out, citing a suspected campaign to stop him from winning again that has damaged "Santa morale".

Ron Horniblew, 70, has been authorised by the Master Santa in Greenland and is part of the elite international Santa circuit who compete at the Santa Winter Games, where up to 50 Father Christmases compete for the world title.

Estonian accordionist Aare Rebban grabbed the crown "amid dark mutterings of political voting, professional jealousy and backbiting", The Mail on Sunday newspaper said.

At the Games in Gallivare in Swedish Lapland, Santas sled, race reindeer-drawn sleighs, eat porridge -- with a splash on the beard earning instant disqualification -- climb chimneys and deliver presents under the watchful gaze of a panel of judges.

Horniblew said it all came down to the reindeer sled race.

"You go up two at a time, head-to-head," he told The Mail on Sunday.

"I was up against the Estonian and I won the race. He actually fell off his sleigh. But he got awarded extra points for falling in a particularly Santa-like style.

"I was pretty miffed at that, I can tell you."

Horniblew revelled in his world title win the previous year but revealed just how tough it is at the top.

"We are all very serious. It's not a fun thing. These guys are all Santa Claus in their own right in their own countries," he said.

Indeed, Horniblew is deadly serious about Santa. Uniformed Santas must not smoke, drink alcohol, or swear.

To be accepted, a potential Father Christmas has to pass the official Santa Test by proving one's charity work or grotto experience.

"I've had it written into my wedding vows that I'll be out being Santa on Christmas Day," Horniblew said.

"When I die, I want my suit, with my authorised badge and Winter Games medals, to be draped over my coffin and my Santa boots sat on top."

40 drunken Santas...six geese a-laying..

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Forty drunken Santas rampaged through central Auckland, stealing from stores and assaulting security guards, the New Zealand Herald reported on Sunday, in a protest against the commercialization of Christmas.

Police said some of the Santas threw beer bottles, one tried to climb the mooring rope of a cruise ship and a security guard was punched during the fracas.

"They came in, said 'Merry Christmas' and then helped themselves," convenience store staff member Changa Manakynda told the Herald, which reported the Santas also attacked a Christmas tree.

The event organizer, Alex Dyer, had warned the antics would only stop when someone was arrested, said the Herald, which linked the incident to "Santarchy."

Santarchy (www.santarchy.com) and online encyclopedia wikipedia (www.wikipedia.org) record protests going back around 10 years in the United States, with participants marking Christmas in anti-commercial manner involving street theater, pranks and public drunkenness.

Police said identification was a key issue as they tried to sort out which of the 40 men and women had done what.

"With a number of people dressed in the same outfit, it was difficult for any witnesses to confirm the identity of who was doing what," Senior Sergeant Matt Rogers told Reuters.

Look, a flashing Santa! Oh, wait..

LONDON (Reuters) - British police said Friday they were looking for a Santa acting suspiciously -- a flasher who had repeatedly exposed himself to women, including on one occasion while dressed as Father Christmas.

Officers in Swanage on the south coast of England said the flasher had struck a number of times since December 6, and a week later exposed himself whilst wearing a Santa Claus outfit.

"I would be very interested to hear from anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously while dressed as Father Christmas in the Gilbert Road or surrounding areas of Swanage town center," Police Constable Jonathan Maunder said.

"These incidents of indecent exposure have caused a great deal of upset to the women that the man has approached."

The songfish on the homepage is now festive.

I watched football on Saturday and with the Bucs getting killed, I had plenty of time to check out the snow graphic Fox ran on top of the score. They even had a little snowplow come by every now and then.

My fav is Snow Misers song!:

The Snow Miser Song

by Maury Laws and Jules Bass

[snow Miser]

I'm Mister White Christmas

I'm Mister Snow

I'm Mister Icicle

I'm Mister Ten Below

Friends call me Snow Miser

What ever I touch

Turns to snow in my clutch

I'm too much!

[Chorus]

He's Mister White Christmas

He's Mister Snow

[snow Miser]

That's right!

[Chorus]

He's Mister Icicle

He's Mister Ten Below

[snow Miser]

Friends call me Snow Miser,

What ever I touch

Turns to snow in my clutch

[Chorus]

He's too much!

[snow Miser]

I never want to see a day

That's over forty degrees

I'd rather have it thirty,

Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEEeeze!

[Chorus]

He's Mister White Christmas

He's Mister Snow

[snow Miser]

That's right!

[Chorus]

He's Mister Icicle

He's Mister Ten Below

[snow Miser]

Friends call me Snow Miser,

What ever I touch

Turns to snow in my clutch

... too much.

[All]

Too Much!

This Santa has just the ticket for cheer

LONDON (Reuters) - A "Parking Ticket Santa Claus" has been spreading cash as well as Christmas cheer around the English city of Birmingham, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

The mystery Santa has placed Christmas cards containing 30 pounds ($53) on the windscreens of drivers who have received parking tickets, the Daily Telegraph said.

"Don't let this ticket spoil your Christmas," declares a note in each card. "Here's #30 to pay it off. Merry Christmas - Parking Ticket Santa."

Fourteen drivers are believed to have received gifts from the unseen Father Christmas, who has given his profession an image boost after a string of stories about "Bad Santas."

In recent days, men in Santa outfits have been accused of committing armed robbery in Germany, exposing themselves in southern England and going on a drunken rampage in New Zealand.

Yep. Sure sounds like they want to see Christmas celebrated more as the birth of Christ instead of this nasty trend toward it going secular.

When my daughter came home from school today, they announced some very sad news. Two of her classmates were killed in a car accident last night. They said that they had been going 75 mi. per hour, hit a guardrail and then a tree...they were both seniors and would of been graduating in the summer...they both had plans for college also..this is just such sad news to recieve during this holiday season. I know when you're a teen, you think that your immortal, that nothing can happen to you, but the sad truth is it can...please be safe, not just for the holidays, but at all times. Talk to your teens about being safe and responsible, and about drinking and driving also.....I know they'll tell you they know all about it....My daughter is very sad about this news. She also said, "why couldn't they have called for a ride?" it's as simple as that...if you've been drinking, It's very simple...dont get in that car!.....Okay...I dont want to bring everyone down too much, so i'll stop...I just wanted to send out this message and reminder.

Please have a safe holiday.....

Laurie, I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like your daughter has a good head on her shoulders. I know good parenting has a lot to do with that.

It's already been said, but hopefully this wake up call will help prevent further accidents. I didn't realize how important not drinking and driving was until my uncle was killed by a drunk driver. That lesson has stayed with me all these years later.

Oh Lord....

Yesterday marked the anniversary of my girlfriends two friends getting in an accident. They were speeding at 75. Hit the guardrail...then flipped over. Its sad. I was listening to a local radio dj, and he gives a bunch of facts on his show to make us feel smarter. Christmas Day is rated the Deadliest Day of the Calendar Year. 12% death increase due to stress, weather, and food.

Be careful this holiday season...STAY INSIDE!

Be careful this holiday season...STAY INSIDE!

That´s what I always tried to do, as in holidays season people drive after heavy meals and worse, lots of alcohol... but I have my family and friends, so I must be social...

Anyways, I wish you all songfactors A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
