Shawna
Today I heard a song... and I can't even remember what it was (dern memory) but it got me to thinking about songs that are of a reflective nature... not regretful, just sort of wistful, a remembrance or somesuch. I came up with a few. "When You Close Your Eyes" ~ Night Ranger It could have been done in a different kinda way But that ain't you, you play tough when you play We're older now, I betcha still think about me "Stone In Love" ~ Journey In the heat with a blue jean girl Burning love comes once in a lifetime Oh, the memories never fade away Golden girl, I'll keep you forever "Even Now" ~ Barry Manilow Even now, when I come shining through I swear I think of you And how I wish you knew, even now "What Might Have Been" ~ Little Texas Sure I think about you now and then But it's been a long, long time I've got a good life now, I moved on But when you crossed my mind I try not to think about what might have been... Any others?
Farin
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town ~ Pearl Jam I seem to recognize your face Haunting, familiar, yet I can't seem to place it Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name Lifetimes are catching up with me All these changes taking place I wish I'd seen the place, but no one's ever taken me Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away I swear I recognize your breath Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising Me you wouldn't recall, for I'm not my former It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf I changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate Perhaps that's what no one wants to see I just wanna scream "Hello! My god, it's been so long, never dreamed you'd return!" But now here you are, and here I am Hearts and thoughts, they fade away Nightswimming ~ R.E.M. Nightswimming deserves a quiet night The photograph on the dashboard taken years ago, turned around backwards so the windshield shows. Every street light reveals a picture in reverse Still it's so much clearer I forgot my shirt at the water's edge The moon is low tonight Nightswimming deserves a quiet night I'm not sure all these people understand It's not like years ago The fear of getting caught The recklessness in water They cannot see me naked These things they go away Replaced by every day Nightswimming, remembering that night September's coming soon I'm pining for the moon And what if there were two Side by side in orbit around the fairest sun? The bright tide forever drawn Could not describe nightswimming You, I thought I knew you You, I cannot judge You, I thought you knew me This one laughing quietly Underneath my breath Nightswimming The photograph reflects Every street light a reminder Nightswimming Deserves a quiet night Deserves a quiet night

Ken
Bob Seger Night Moves "I awoke last night to the sound of thunder, how far off, I sat and wondered. Started hummin' a song from 1962. Ain't it funny how the night moves. When you just don't seem to have that much to lose, strange how the night moves.... With Autumn closin' in...." night2day
Wow! Very nice category regarding music! There are so many good songs that it is hard to name just one particular one. Probably 95% of the music I admire is attributed to my dad. I think he put headphones on me whilst cutting my umbiblical cord . Though, he fought in Vietnam and told me that nothing in life is worse than having to deal with hand to hand combat and seeing the people you've trained with fall right in front of your eyes. My dad said that was terrible but he also said the most terrible thing was surviving, coming home where he thought he would be safe and accepted- only to be spit upon by protesters that didn't even have a clue as to why they spit! Very sad and it made my dad even sadder. Anyway, my dad said this song helped him get through it.

Lucky
Boys of Summer - Don Henley "Nobody on the road, nobody on the beach. I feel it in the air, the summers out of reach Empty lake, empty streets, the sun goes down alone. I'm driving by your house though I know that you not home... And I can see you you brown skin shining in the sun you got your hair combed back sunglasses on baby and I can tell you my love for you will still be strong after the boy of summer have gone." Watching the River Flow- Bob Dylan "What's the matter with me, I don't have much to say, Daylight sneakin' through the window And I'm still in this all-night cafe. Walkin' to and fro beneath the moon Out to where the trucks are rollin' slow, To sit down on this bank of sand And watch the river flow. Wish I was back in the city Instead of this old bank of sand, With the sun beating down over the chimney tops And the one I love so close at hand. If I had wings and I could fly, I know where I would go. But right now I'll just sit here so contentedly And watch the river flow."

night2day
Speaking of reflections; my dad used to always play this next song on his 12 string guitar. For lack of a better word, it was beautiful! it went something like this: "Here that lonesome whipporwill He sounds too blue to fly The midnight train is whinning low I'm so lonesome I could cry Did ya ever have a night so long When time kept crawling by The moon just went behind a cloud To hide its face and cry Did you ever hear a robin weep When leaves began to die That means its lost the will to live I'm so lonesome I could cry The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky And as I wonder where you are I'm so lonesome I could cry."
