MindCrime
London Calling - The Clash (1979) 1. London Calling 2. Brand New Cadillac 3. Jimmy Jazz 4. Hateful 5. Rudie Can't Fail 6. Spanish Bombs 7. The Right Profile 8. Lost In The Supermarket 9. Clampdown 10. The Guns Of Brixton 11. Wrong 'Em Boyo 12. Death Or Glory 13. Koka Kola 14. The Card Cheat 15. Lover's Rock 16. Four Horsemen 17. I'm Not Down 18. Revolution Rock 19. Train in Vain This album barely makes the deadline, released late December, 1979. "The double-album London Calling is a remarkable leap forward, incorporating the punk aesthetic into rock & roll mythology and roots music. There's punk and reggae, but there's also rockabilly, ska, New Orleans R&B, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock; and while the record isn't tied together by a specific theme, its eclecticism and anthemic punk function as a rallying call. While many of the songs — particularly "London Calling," "Spanish Bombs," and "The Guns of Brixton" — are explicitly political, by acknowledging no boundaries the music itself is political and revolutionary. The result is a stunning statement of purpose and one of the greatest rock & roll albums ever recorded."

Farin
Trans-Europa Express ~ Kraftwerk (1977) Released in a German, English and French version. The music is the same, just the lyrics are translated. Side one 1. "Europa Endlos" ("Europe Endless") 9:35 2. "Spiegelsaal" ("The Hall of Mirrors") 7:50 3. "Schaufensterpuppen" ("Showroom Dummies") 6:10 Side two 4. "Trans-Europa Express" ("Trans-Europe Express") 6:40 5. "Metall auf Metall" ("Metal on Metal") 6:52 6. "Franz Schubert" 4:25 7. "Endlos Endlos" ("Endless Endless") 0:55 some professional ratings: Allmusic - 5/5 stars Robert Christgau - (A-) Drowned In Sound - (10/10) The Independent - 5/5 stars Mojo - 5/5 stars Q - 4/5 stars Rolling Stone - 5/5 stars Slant Magazine - 5/5 stars Spin - (9/10) Uncut - 5/5 stars The day will soon come, if it hasn't already, that "Trans-Europe Express" joins the ranks of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Exile on Main Street as a record that simply cannot be written about. Like those two, Kraftwerk's masterpiece not only represents a high point of its era-- delivering on pop promises years in the making and establishing a voice theretofore unheard-- but contributes to an archetype informing almost anything released afterwards. It quickly became impossible to ignore what the German quartet had accomplished, in both artistic and technical terms. That its breakthroughs actually managed to filter into the popular music arena relatively quickly was a rare bonus.
