c_s_1987
Australia is equal 15th with 1 gold and 1 silver. Pretty good for a country with minimal snow.
Kevin
That is an awesome result . As I go down the list and see only half the competing countries with medals , I can't help but hope for at least 1 by them . Were at least 2/3 to take home a medal of some sort , then I think the Winter Games would have more impact and interest . Go underdogs ; that's all that keeps the Olympics really interesting-including a possible defeat for Canada in hockey or curling .
Farin
unbelievable - Great Britain won a Gold medal
Kevin
That was surprising , and they may get one or two of the curling medals as well , as both teams are decent .
TheLizard
Does gold medal in curling go to whoever makes the audience fall asleep the fastest? Because as far as I can tell, that's the goal of the "sport".
Lucky
I love watching curling. It's just shuffleboard on ice really. I used to spent enough time in the bar playing and watching that I love it. I think that seriously makes me a redneck.
Farin
I for one would much rather watch curling then eg figure skating, or even worse: ice dancing

There are a couple of bars around these parts that have shuffleboard, so if you're a redneck, so am I.
BlueAngel
I'm not a big fan but I don't mind curling, I like the strategy. ...even worse: ice dancing Yeah I think we're stretching the definition of "sport" a bit too far on that one . Levis
I like figure skating, it's so... nice. I'm a fan of anything flowy and graceful and rhythmic and gymnasty.
MindCrime
I'm beginning to think I'm the only American that doesn't like Shaun White.
Lucky
Maybe you are. I love figure skating. It's so beautiful, and yet precise with the tricks, spins & jumps. Ice dancing is another story. It doesn't excite me much.
CanAm
How about that Slovenian skier who broke five ribs and had a collapsed lung and who still went on to win a bronze medal. Now that, is courage.!! She is a real champion, unlike most of Canada's medal favourites who have raised choking to an art form.
CanAm
I'm beginning to think I'm the only American that doesn't like Shaun White. I don't know much about the fellow, but he is one heck of a snowboarder. He seems like the Tony Hawk of snowboarding.
Lucky
He is exacty that. He's actually a friend and neighbor of Hawk. Both of them live near me (within 8 miles or so), and Shaun has been known to show up at the local YMCA skate park (where he learned his moves on a skateboard) just to hang with the kids, etc .... who can not like that sort of grounded personality? Plus he's adorable, has gorgeous hair, and has a lovely personality, making him attractive to girls & women of all ages. And he loves dogs & little kids. What's not to like?? Heehee! Farin
oh no, did you see what happened with Netherlands' Sven Kramer at the 10km skating race? He 'won' the competition with 4sec, but was disqualified because during the race his trainer sent him on the wrong track
miamisammy29
Ha Ha, that was great! Those guys are morons!
Farin
and if you THEN take into account that speed skating is for the Netherlands what Baseball is for the US... ouch
miamisammy29
Maybe they should switch national sports. I hear nobody wants Ice Dancing.

phil
I'm hoping for a USA - Canada, Mens Ice Hockey final on Sunday. That will be fun to watch.
BlueAngel
^That's the most likely pairing at this point. Russia was relatively/surprisingly easy to beat for Canada with Ovechkin (and to be fair even Crosby) being somewhat non-entities. Good luck to them, it's the one gold Canada probably wants most. And very nice job by Rebensburg in Women's Giant Slalom.
Farin
so, for the first time since the Olympic Winter Games of Grenoble (1968) the German men's biathlon team didn't win any medal
