[big]Al Gore Awarded Nobel Peace Prize[/big]

Former US vice president Al Gore is to become the recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He will share the prize with the IPCC for their common work in spreading the word about the dangers of climate change.

Officials at the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Friday that former United States Vice President Al Gore will be awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Gore, 59, will share the award with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The committee said Gore and IPCC would be bestowed with one of the world's top honors "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climat change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change."

The award is to be presented to Gore on December 10.
