The Songfactor's Choice Top Ten #70

Recommended Posts

Hello my friends!! :)

Due to a slight technical problem ( a stinkin' rat chewed our cable wire), I won't have access to a computer for a couple of days. }:(

I've pt'd Martin, and I think he's going to provide links to my nominations. So here goes...

Blue Velvet ~ Bobby Vinton (1962)

The Ballad of Dwight Fry ~ Alice Cooper (1971) (excellent Alice audio)

The Ballad of Dwight Fry (excellent Alice performance...in case you've forgotten!)

Also, since Independence Day for us here in the US is Wednesday (the first day of voting, normally), we may have to do some re-arranging. I've pt'd that to Martin as well. We'll figure out if any scheduling changes need to be made! :)

**Well the cable man showed up today, so here are my links... once again opposite ends of my spectrum! ;)

and a song I'm sure won't get as many votes:

No Milk Today ~ Herman's Hermits

It will get mine, for sure... :)

Actually, I thought it made the Top. It´s one of the great classics...

So this Top Darryl nominates 90s and Martin 60s?

yep, that's the gist of it

and No Milk Today was nominated twice before:

in TT #8 it got 23 points (barely in the Top 30)

in TT #20 it got 25 points (barely in the Top 25)

I chose Rearview Mirror from the Pearl Jam songs my sons Brian (27) and Peter (24) put forward, because it was the only one which hadn't been nominated before. It's Brian's favorite and Peter likes it very much too. I should have had them join Songfacts, I nominate it, and I have 30 Points between them and Martin. Trouble is, I wouldn't vote for it.

Sorry Martin ! I know you nominated Eddie Vedder in the 'Best Voices' Special, but every vocal by him sounds the same to me. I like the music though. I said 'it would make a good instrumental' to Peter yesterday and he just stared at me.

Funny - I remember my Parents saying exactly the same about my favorite music when I was younger, "it all sounds the same", and "turn that noise down !". In another 30 years or so you might be saying the same about your kids' music.

Frightening, isn't it ???

Thanks Katie!! Glad you like it! I saw Alice perfoming this song back in 71 when it was a new release. My first concert ever! You'll have a great time! ;)

I'm sorry, I don't understand that sentence... :stars:

the only... what exactly? :P

(btw it's "Rearviewmirror" - one word  )

that's okay, I know you're not listening to them (or that music in general) much... I can perfectly understand your son's reaction after that statement though ;)

It wasn't a very well framed sentence, sorry !

I meant my sons suggested (put forward) their favorite Pearl Jam songs, and Rearviewmirror (one word - I got it now) was the only one of those that hadn't been nominated in our Top Tens before. I wanted to be original ! It's Brian's favorite, but Peter prefers 'Black'.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head ! I can't believe it hasn't been nominated before ! Same with Kevin's Mull Of Kintyre. It was the biggest song of the 70s (whole decade) in the UK, and the biggest song of 1978 in Australia. The flip side Girls' School charted higher in the U.S. Maybe they didn't like the bagpipes.

And Blue Velvet by the Polish Prince; should get Sammy's vote ! (Mine too).

There's just so many songs nominated that I like this time !

It's going to be murder leaving some out. :P

It looks like they worked their way up from playing violins, Lars. ;)

Installation and Modifications: Nikos Dimopoulos and Joshua Pettit

Could one of the Full Time Mods contact Nik or Josh please, and tell them the Site has been going slow for nearly a week now. Sometimes it's been impossible to access the Message Boards.

Goodnight All !!!:)

I didn't notice that it was slow...

you could try putting a post in the "About Songfacts" thread, but I slowly get the impression that not too many people of importance read these posts...

you probably would have better chances to PT Carl or contact either this Nik or Josh person by yourself :P
