Saw "Moneyball" today. Decent enough movie, but I doubt I would have liked it at all if it wasn't about someone I knew in junior high.

I've never been a Brad Pitt fan, but he was pretty good in this. My kid liked it quite a lot, which is saying something, since he usually doesn't like a movie unless it's got chases and blood and violence.

So based on that, I'll give it a 8.5/10

I went to see "Dolphin Tale" on Saturday. It's based loosely on the story of a dolphin that was rescued off the coast of Florida, had her tail amputated and was fitted with an artificial tail. They dramatized the story by adding in a troubled boy who connects with her.

It was sweet at the end, though, when they showed real footage of Winter's rescue and then footage from the Clearwater aquarium where amputees are able to get in the pool with her and connect with her. Sammy loved it and now she wants to go see Winter the dolphin. 8/10.

I watched The White Ribbon yesterday, the story of some mysterious happenings in a small German town shortly before World War I...

a very good, even if difficult film... but I guess something with this subject matter (the roots of facism / terrorism) shouldn't be treated lightly anyway.

Drive: 9.5/10

Immediately after seeing this film, I thought to myself, damn, this movie was all style and no substance, but the style was so good that it doesn't even matter, and it's actually a better movie for having no substance. But then I thought about it for a while and realized that there is actually a lot of substance to the movie, it's just not shoved in your face like you would expect an arthouse action flick to be. Much like another favorite of mine, No Country for Old Men, it is intentionally minimal in terms of character development and plot, which not only allows the audience to draw their own conclusions but also make commentary on emptiness and Hollywood. I dunno, sometimes I think I'm a little too quick to assume a movie is about movies in general, but I think I'm on the mark with this one. Anyway, I thought it was fantastic. Probably the "Taxi Driver" of our generation. Or at least the "No Country for Old Men" of Los Angeles. Or a less silly "Inglorious Basterds." Or maybe just a big cool aesthetic visual and aural feast, which I'd be ok with too. Also, I'm gonna be pretentious and create a new genre name for it: Post-superhero.

Took off a half point because the gore really did get to me. I think out of the action scenes, the most effective ones had the least gore. I'm fine with violence, but let's be real, blood is gross.

Paranormal Activity 3....should be Paraboring...all through the movie I was waiting for something scary to happen, but nope, nothing...there might of been one scary part in that whole movie and that's about it...I don't even know why it's rated R...Now I know why I don't go to the movies that much...10 bucks a ticket and then be dissappointed...oh well. I did not see the first two movies, so I have nothing to compare it to..but I'm guessing they probably weren't that great either.

"Bad Teacher" - Not bad enough for me, if you know what I mean. 6 out of 10.

"Bridesmaids" - Eh, it had its moments...but much more of a chick-flick than I thought it would be. 6 out of 10.

"The Beaver" - Imagine my surprise when I found out it WASN'T a porno flick......AND it starred Mel Gibson. But actually it was kinda funny - and gorey at times. Liked it a bunch, but it's not one of those you'll wanna watch over and over. 7 out of 10.

Last movie I watched was Rise of the Planet of the Apes while riding a bus.

It was good for its imaginative aspect.

However, I wanted to see more of James Franco. I mean there was something lacking.

I'd give it a 7.5.

Puss in Boots - cute, but nothing special. My daughter liked it, though, and even though it's PG rated, I didn't think there was anything too bad in it for the kiddies 6/10

I started watching, "The Hereafter" the other night and was truly impressed with the first ten minutes of it. The Tsunami footage was cinema excellence and actually gave me a nightmare!

Sadly, the other 90 minutes of the film drowned. I think it was the tsunami's fault; or Matt Damon's robotic acting skills. ;) 4/10

I was watching TV late at night trying to get asleep... nothing better than crappy TV for that purpose...

...and suddenly, "Raging Bull" by Scorsese. How I loved that movie!!!!

Wow, Martin Scorcese. One of the best and including but not limited to the masterpieces from him;

Taxi Driver

The Color of Money

Mean Streets

The King of Comedy

The Last Temptation of Christ

Goodfellas

Cape Fear (1991)

Casino

Gangs of New York

Mr. Scorcese has a way of making history come alive, imo. I just wish i knew how to pronounce his name; is it Scor-say-see or is it Scor-cess-eee? ;)

Went to see The Muppets last night with my niece and nephew and we loved it! So funny, and I'm really glad they used the actual puppets instead of Lucas-ing it up and making them CG. I'd have to agree with the 10/10 rating.
