hellopeople
I think it is an analogy for the blind state of mass society. Yellow is the colour of the coward. Living in a yellow submarine means obliviousness to the soulless nature of 9 to 5 life and obliviousness to the real nature of existance which sure isn't making money and working for the man. The song maybe says that people live in a cocoon which they are perfectly happy with. What do you reckon?
Levis
I think a yellow submarine is much cooler than a boring old black submarine. Welcome to Songfactsland
TheLizard
I think it's just a silly song that let Ringo stretch his vocal chords a bit. Not that silly means bad, but I doubt it has any deep meaning. Interesting theory though. Welcome!
The Seeker
I think it's just a silly song that let Ringo stretch his vocal chords a bit. Not that silly means bad, but I doubt it has any deep meaning. That's what I think too... Edited January 7, 2007 by Guest
Lexxi Marie
Interesting theory and could very well be. Sometimes though I think people think too much about things and start coming up with theories like this just to make it interesting...But yknow, House does the same thing and he's always right so who am I to talk? haha

Red Fish
It's only yellow because someone spilled the paint and Paul was too cheap to fix it.
Skuff
Like Paul said when people started to say that YS was about drugs, It's a children's song.

Kevin
Now , just where in the hell have YOU been , missy ?!?! } AWOL ! Nifty theory ! However ,I can almost imagine it's origin in Ringo daydreaming while playing with some nifty tub toys - perhaps an actual yellow submarine ... ?! sadlady
i would guess it was something they wrote when they were all toasted...haha!! a fun song, that's all...everyone has their own opinions of what a song means to them... that's one of the great things about music. Rayzor
I think it's a kids song about tub-toys, much like a few others here, but with a twist: It's a "toasted kid" song!

edna
I always thought it´s a silly song written by Paul McCartney, very much in his "All together now" or "Obladi-oblada" style... I don´t think it has any meaning.

edna
Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though its breaking When there are clouds in the sky, youll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow Youll see the sun come shining through for you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near Thats the time you must keep on trying Smile, whats the use of crying? Youll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile
Kevin
Sadlady - it's pretty simple . If you're Mid-Western ( Indianna, is it ) , then you already know how to behave yourself . If you're from the East or Califor-nai-eh - then you're under natural scrutiny , which goes without sayin' ! Those are general rules , mind you ...
