Judo
Thanks OLD55, but I was just kidding. I think I'm gonna put in just 8 votes this time. Truthfully I have not heard any of the other nominations. On such occasions I'd give my 9th & 10th votes to a known artist of my choice even if I have not heard the song before. Like a few others on this thread I am not able to check out songs even though a link to the video is provided. A lot of music sites like YouTube, and most MP3 DL sites are blocked here at the office. At home it is just not worth it on a dial up connection, besides i just don't have the inclination to sit at a PC after an 8-hour (6 full-day week) stint at the office. I wish there was a way out. e.g. if songfactors could post a zipped MP3 version of their nominations to this thread or email it to those who would like to receive it. I do know I am missing out on a lot of good music - songs that have made the top ten which I have never heard of.

Judo
No Dappled, I don't think I have. There are times though when I need to be reminded of an old song, i.e. I know it from hearing it on the radio as a kid / teenie bopper, but can't recall the entire song or its title. edna
Judo, I can e-mail you the links for some youtube songs but you´ll have to check at home... and I could also send some mp3 but I guess you´d have the same problem as you´re on dial-up... Judo
Thanks Edna, but links won't serve my purpose. Even a simple direct download of an MP3 is barred here at the office. There was a time when it was not barred and (we have broadband here at the office) I used to DL a lot. After sifting chaff from grain I managed to burn as many as 25+ CDs, each filled to capacity - averaging 22 songs to a CD. While these songs are my kinda music most of the artists are good if not great but yet unknown. Sometimes I get the wifey to DL at the broadband cafe and send them over to me via email attachments. DL of the MP3 as an email attachmentis ok, I can work around that through a back door !!
OLD 55
Judo, maybe these lyrics might jog your memory ? I think you'd know "Since I Fell For You", Lenny Welch, 1964. It's a beautiful song. When you just give love, and never get love, you'd better let love depart. I know it's so, and yet I know, I can't get you out of my heart. You made me leave my happy home. You took my love, and now you've gone, since I fell for you ... Love brings such misery and pain. I guess I'll never be the same, since I fell for you ... Well it's too bad, and it's too sad, but I'm in love with you ... You love me, then you snub me. But what can I do, I'm still in love with you. Well, I guess I'll never see the light. I get the blues most every night, since I fell for you ... Since I fell for you. .................................................. AND "Tears Of A Clown" The Miracles featuring William 'Smokey' Robinson, 1967 (Album) - #1 U.S. single 1970. A wonderful song written by Smokey - much like his "Tracks Of My Tears", if you liked that. Now if there's a smile on my face It's only there trying to fool the public But when it comes down to fooling you Now honey that's quite a different subject But don't let my glad expression Give you the wrong impression 'Cause really I'm sad, Oh I'm sadder than sad Well I'm hurt and I want you so bad Like a clown I appear to be glad ooh yeah [Chorus:] Well they're some sad things known to man But ain't too much sadder than The tears of a clown when there's no one around Oh yeah, baby baby, oh yeah baby baby Now if I appear to be carefree It's only to camouflage my sadness And honey to shield my pride I try To cover this hurt with a show of gladness But don't let my show convince you That I've been happy since you 'Cause I need to go, oh I need you so Look I'm hurt and I want you to know For others I put on a show ... [Chorus] Just like Pagliacci did I try to keep my surface hid Smiling in the crowd I try But in a lonely room I cry The tears of a clown When there's no one around, oh yeah, baby baby Now if there's a smile on my face Don't let my glad expression Give you the wrong impression Don't let this smile I wear Make you think that I don't care .................................................. AND "Pleasant Valley Sunday", 1967. I think you are a Monkees' fan (?) and you would know that. It's a fun satirical song about U.S. Suburbia. Pleasant Valley Sunday The local rock group down the street Is trying hard to learn their song Seranade the weekend squire, who just came out to mow his lawn Another Pleasant Valley Sunday Charcoal burning everywhere Rows of houses that are all the same And no one seems to care See Mrs. Gray she's proud today because her roses are in bloom Mr. Green he's so serene, He's got a t.v. in every room Another Pleasant Valley Sunday Here in status symbol land Mothers complain about how hard life is And the kids just don't understand Creature comfort goals They only numb my soul and make it hard for me to see My thoughts all seem to stray, to places far away I need a change of scenery Ta Ta Ta... Another Pleasant Valley Sunday Charcoal burning everywhere Another Pleasant Valley Sunday Here in status symbol land Another Pleasant Valley Sunday... Hope this helps Goodnight All. Judo
Thanks OLD55, but regrettably I drew blanks on all of the above. Would you belive it, other than (I can get no) Satisfaction, I don't think I know many Rolling Stones's numbers. I must also admit that as much as I am a fan of the Beatles, some of their songs nominated here were unknown to me.
