Smells

I like/dislike most of the same things as the rest of you... some particulars and differences would be:

I love...

Gasoline

Paint

Puppy breath (it has a lovely distinctive smell)

Coffee brewing

distinct baking and cooking smells like cinammon and garlic

I hate the smell of...

Hot and damp things in the heat of summer, like dog, shoes, and swimming gear.

perfume and cologne applied too heavily

diesel fumes

those bathroom soap scum cleaners

I like:

Perfume (YSL Babydoll and Christian Dior Pure Poison are my favourites)

Rain or an impending storm

Freshly mown lawns

Watermelon Lipgloss

Violets, daphne and roses

Cakes baking

Don't like:

Strong cigarette smoke

Methylated spirits

Fried food smells

Baby poo

Most air fresheners

Domestos (it's bleach)

Good :

leather

new tires in the shop

wood- especially Pine or Cedar newly cut

pipe and wood smoke

bread baking

bacon cooking

rosemary, lavender , jasmine and cinnamon

a room cleaned with a bit of bleach

frying liver and onions ( though the taste is not up to the smell )

A Farmer's Market in late Summer or Autumn

a recently burnt match

Popping Popcorn

Old Spice

truffle oil or paste ( wish I could afford the real thing ... )

A whiff of Kentucky Fried Chicken if you haven't eaten any recently ( that's how they 'get' ya ! )

old books and museums

Play Dough and crayons

Bad:

coffee sitting on a warmer too long

wet dogs

metals

most French cheeses ( though they taste good )

Kimchee in the refrigerator

boiling or hot vinegar ( either in cooking or cleaning your coffee maker )

stale wine / beer ( ie: your house or room after a rockin' party )

B.O. - especially in hot , close quarters

the oil after deep-frying

many lakeshores in Summer

the air from a dirty air-conditioner

lighter fluid burning off

bird cadges and their occupants

A whiff of KFC or MacDonald's soon after or if you've recently eaten there

Good smells:

lilac

jasmine

gardenia

honeysuckle

fresh baked bread or cookies

bacon frying

onions frying (even though I can't eat them anymore)

limes

gin(because it smells like limes to me)

any robust red wine

lamb being barbecued

fresh rosemary or thyme (memories of Greece)

fresh nutmeg or cloves (memories of Grenada)

an ocean breeze

Bad smells:

A pulp mill or an outhouse. They smell much the same.

Cat pee

Stale cigarette or cigar smoke

Fresh asphalt

Railroad ties that smell of creosote

Rotting chicken

Rotting seal (My wife and I came upon a rather large one in Mazatlan) I guess we can generalize and say any rotting carcass.
