Recommended Posts

Thanks guys ! So we just have 3 more to vote* and Farin can work out this (highly confusing) Top Ten. The votes are just SO widely spread. Some surprises here.

* bluesboy, Brad, Sweet Jane.

Sorry to add to the confusion, but I just realized that I had made a horrific blunder. I had not included Can't You See - The Marshall Tucker Band on my list. I've edited my previous post from number 6 on down. I dropped Mr. Tambourine Man (I love The Byrds, but not that particular song so much)

Thanks, Jane!

And you did indeed change the outcome, not in #1, but in #2... :)

So I'm happy to announce that for the very first time we don't have a 60's or 70's song on #1 in the...

Nothing is wrong with the 60's and 70's,

but

1. This was the first time that a song of another decade is #1 and

2. This is the first time that a nomination by yours truly made it on #1

you've got that right with the female artist. Through the whole voting it was a race between Pearl Jam and Mama Cass and then Aretha...

Yay, Pearl Jam!!!!

Isn't this the second time Aretha has been at #2? She could give lessons to all these "divas" out there on how to REALLY deliver a song.

Overall, I think this is a great list!

Yes you're right. "Respect" was #2 in Top Ten #2...

I guess we'll get a female #1 soon :)

PS: for anyone who doesn't know the song, here's Alive (Live) ~ Pearl Jam :)

OK ... heard it, saw it. Could not consider this a top ten song due to the fact that other than "I'm still alive" and "she said ... question ... answer ..." I did not understand the rest of the words.

They are certainly gifted musically and the performance was very high energy, ala The Who. But the lead singer makes Joe Cocker sound eloquent.

When it's not an instrumental, I like messages with the song. I guess I'm just picky that way.

there is a message in "Alive"! just because you couldn't make out the lyrics...

Son, she said, have I got a little story for you

What you thought was your daddy was nothin but a...

While you were sittin home alone at age thirteen

Your real daddy was dyin, sorry you didnt see him, but Im glad we talked...

Oh i, oh, Im still alive

Hey, i, i, oh, Im still alive

Hey i, oh, Im still alive

Hey...oh...

Oh, she walks slowly, across a young mans room

She said Im ready...for you

I cant remember anything to this very day

cept the look, the look...

Oh, you know where, now I cant see, I just stare...

I, Im still alive

Hey i, but, Im still alive

Hey i, boy, Im still alive

Hey i, i, i, Im still alive, yeah

Ooh yeah...yeah yeah yeah...oh...oh...

Is something wrong, she said

Well of course there is

Youre still alive, she said

Oh, and do I deserve to be

Is that the question

And if so...if so...who answers...who answers...
