Shawna
Steve Lukather of Toto wrote the song for Rosanna Arquette. I'd always thought that, too. But I remember back when the song came out, the members of Toto and Rosanna Arquette herself denied denied denied that the song was about her... "methinks they doth protest too much"? OLD 55
Hi Shawna. Hope you are well ! She was his girlfriend at the time, so like you, I think he probably did write it with her in mind. Too coincidental otherwise !

OLD 55
Who's she please ? Don't know her in Oz. She looks like Ruth Buzzi who used to be in Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In.
Shawna
That's Gilda Radner, 55. Or... Rosanne Rosannadanna from Saturday Night Live - when it was fresh and original - and GOOD. I remember Ruth Buzzi, too... Laugh-in was way ahead of its time. What a classic.
phil
She is the late Gilda Ratner from the original Saturday Night Live TV comedy show. She was married to Gene Wilder.
OLD 55
Thanks for that. I do know her name and remember she was a comedienne. Shawna, I've left some advice for Brad on the "Announcements" thread. He should read it. Umm, maybe you'd better not though.

edna
#3: "Knock knock who´s there", Mary Hopkins? or "Who can it be now?", Men at work? #10 "Eleanore Rigby", Beatles? #5 … "Seven Days"?, Ron Wood or "Days", The Kinks?
OLD 55
#3: "Who can it be now?", Men at work? #10 "Eleanor Rigby", Beatles? Well Done Edna ! That's two down
blind-fitter
No.1: I hesitate to suggest it, but could it be Anarchy in The UK???! (Probably not a hit on the US chart, come to think of it...) No. 4; could it be "The Final Countdown" by Europe? If so, that's a good clue you've given, 'cos the song is ultimately disastrous, (in my book at least!)
blind-fitter
No. 2: The Cure - "Let's Go To Bed"?
OLD 55
Hi B-F. Not those, but The Final Countdown is a very good answer. The Sex Pistols didn't have any U.S. hit singles. The Cure had a few; my favorite of theirs' The Love Cats wasn't one though (nor was Let's Go To Bed).
edna
#4: "The end of the world", Skeeter Davies? Or "The end of the world", The Cure? Or "The end of the world(as we know it)", REM?
blind-fitter
One can but try. I know next to nothing about the US Charts, to be honest...I must confess that I have spent much of my adult life listening to "non-mainstream" music and spurning much (but not all) "commercial pop" as I would a rabid dog...So this kind of quiz is pretty challenging for me. If it were UK chart hits I'd obviously stand a much better chance! (I've always listened with interest, even to stuff I loathed.... )
edna
#2 "Good night", Beatles?
OLD 55
Good answers for #4 Edna, but not those, sorry. The word "End" doesn't appear in the song title. With #2, it could be at night but not necessarily. That Beatles' song didn't chart as a single either, unless it was a B side of some Hit. Maybe I should have a European version too ! B-F I've got a great U.K. Chart Book that a friend of mine brought back for me. She worked for Pickwick Records while she was over there, and her boss, Graham Betts, compiled it.
