invisible_r Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 she looked quite big yesterday, which is why i was so impressed with the way she carries herself, so confident! i'm bying the cd today!
Danielj Posted July 3, 2005 Author Report Posted July 3, 2005 Did no one else catch the Canadian show?
SoulGirl Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 sorry daniel, they didn't show it here in germany
edna Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Neither in Spain. They said the Guess Who were performing... did they play "Share the land"? Who else was there?
invisible_r Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 they showed clips of it here but not the whole thing i think. although there might have been the option of switching between shows, not sure. didn't want to miss any of the london acts
Kevin Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Well I see it as being disrespectful to the folks and families who went there to support the bands and to the cause. It didn't add anything to the performances and I found it to be in bad taste, even though Madonna apologised for it later. It was a family show and broadcast all across the world, not a personal gig for any of the artists, they can do what they like at their own shows. Just my opinion They don't really respect the artists, they just enjoy the free show , as well as the 'gratitude' of others for being there -- quite a tale . If they really respscted the poor : they would sell their homes , give all their assets to a resputable charity and live in solidarity in the boondocks ... in a tent , with their fellow men and women ,,,,,
edna Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Bah... I am not cool. :: Oh... why? You are cool!!!
invisible_r Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 i'm sure you can download it or something, they are repeating again on uk tv today for example. i think you might be able to download it on www.live8live.com
Batman Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I think the only disappointments were Madonna and Snoop Dogg swearing when they were fully aware it was a family event, LIVE on TV and the crowd were amped and excited enough to not have to resort to swearing to get a reaction. Bad taste. You know, Pink Floyd also swore. They said "Don't give me that do-goody-goody bull****." It would have sounded really weird edited out, though, and they are legends, so it would be a little disrespectful to edit out Pink Floyd. They did cut them off anyway, though. Bah Humbug.
_jr_ Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I think that's a little different. Those are lyrics in the song. Artistic license only goes so far, then it's just swearing for the sake of looking like an idiot.
edna Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Jr, you couldn´t be more right. Not only you´re right but you´re also a sea lion now... ::
Batman Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I think that's a little different. Those are lyrics in the song. Artistic license only goes so far, then it's just swearing for the sake of looking like an idiot. I agree, I was just pointing it out.
invisible_r Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 i think all the f**ks in snoop dogs songs were just in the lyrics too
_jr_ Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I couldn't say Rach. but at what point does it stop being artistic, and become just plain vulgar?
invisible_r Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 i can't say i'm bothered by it, we all hear bad language every day in many different situations. and you can try and shelter kids from it but they will be exposed to it no matter what
SoulGirl Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 that's true rach, some of the greatest films of our times have swearing every second word! i guess it's come to the point where for a lot of people swearing doesn't even have that shocking impact that it used to.
_jr_ Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I suppose my issue with it is, just how much artistic value does it have?
SoulGirl Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 it doesn't, not really. swearing is used in both life and art to create an impact. i suoppse the idea is that it strengthens the message. but it doesn't have any artistic intergrity as such. it just offends some people more than others while some young teenagers probably think it's cool and rebellious.
Batman Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I'm not a big Snoop Dogg fan, but my guess is that the swearing is for shock value. JR, you can probably relate it to Alice Cooper. You were/are an Alice Cooper fan, right? Well did your parents ever object to Alice Cooper? I'll bet they did, with all the violence in his shows, and I'll bet they asked stuff like "what's the artistic importance of his goriness?" The answer, there really isn't much. Alice could get away with that kind of stuff though, and still be artistic, because he had musical talent. You can't say that about Snoop Dogg, though. Alice was trying to distance himself from adults, and that's what Snoop is doing now. But that doesn't hide the fact that Snoop's music sucks, and that constant swearing causes it to lose it's effect.
SoulGirl Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 snoopdogg has talent, it's just a different kind of talent because it's a different kind of music to what you like! *ducks for cover*
_jr_ Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Nah. Rap isn't music. It's an art form, but it's not music.
