Tenacious_Peaches
We may as well make an official post about it. I've seen comments on the show here and there, so let's consolidate it. But first, a disclaimer. Yes, I watch it. No, I don't think they are "real" musicians because they are simply singing karaoke. Yes, I do think some of them are very talented and am rooting for them to win. Yes, I want to throw bricks at my TV every time I hear the word "pitchy". And, finally, if you don't like it, don't friggin' watch it. [/rant] OK, here is my official take on AI. I love Bo. I don't think he will win, but I think he is the most talented and has the most stage presence.
invisible_r
i've never watched american idol (is simon cowell still on it?) but my ex-flatmate used to watch pop idol and all of he other similar shows (fame academy, popstars the rivals), and they all just pissed me off so much! PSYCHOcatholic
GO BO GO BO! HE should win. That would be TWO Alabama Winners. Hes from right here in Huntsville too! Ive been wonderin what was gonna happen to our town!!
Batman
Simon is stupid, just read my post in the musical random thoughts thread to see his comment about Bo Bice's song choice. Anyways, I'm rooting for Bo. I was rooting for Nadia, also, but she got the boot.
SoulGirl
nadia got the boot?! i'm missing out here in germany but was following it til i left ireland. nadia was pretty cool, she had a very limited range but she picked songs that suited her. not a great vocalist but great style and presence, an entertainer. i'll admit it too, i love american idol, purely for entertainment value. i've watched all of series two and three (we didn't get the first one) and both times the person i was rooting for won - ruuuuben - a cutie, and fantasia - what a voice! her version of summertime gave me goosebumps as did ruben's take on smile. i think bo rocks and has great stage presence but i haven't been crazy about his choice of songs so far. anthony federov is an atrocity. the word pitchy does not exist and makes me want to scream. my brother used it once and he suffered for it. simon cowell is actually a very intelligent man and has his head screwed on. i mostly agree with what he was to say. however i hate the first three or so episodes of every season where they are so needlessly rude to people, purely to get a reaction. lastly it seems clear to me that having had a white female winner, a black female and male winner, they are now orchestrating it as best they can to get a white male winner. even the song categories have been purposely vague to accomodate the 'rockers' (constantine is a sellout, ever since simon's smouldering idol comment, i can't even look at him anymore he's such a poser!) anyway, that's my two cents. if anyone has the time i'd greatly appreciate news of who gets knocked out as the weeks go by!! oh and btw, hey peaches - you rock!!! miamisammy29
i love american idol, purely for entertainment value. What other value could there possibly be? They're not taking bets on this sh*t, are they? Actually, "other people" of with whom I associate enjoy the show and watch it all the time. So, when it's on I get tied to a chair in front of the TV and am forced to watch. I no longer have a working inner ear and my eyes have turned to a greyish, gel-like substance. But Soulgirl makes a nice argument. Except, I thought Nadia was the best of the lot. She was able to sing different kinds of songs and sing them all very well. That Akhbar dude with the dreadlocks has sung pretty much the same exact song every time he was on stage. That Beau guy should have hung himself after butchering "Freebird" (which, by the way, was from 1973 - not 1975, his so-called "birth year"). You can't play that song without the guitar solo...it absolutely cheapens the classic tune. Constantine and Federov are destined to be deported back to the gay bathhouse in Siberia from whence they came. AND IF I HEAR THE WORD "PITCHY" ONE MORE F***ING TIME, I AM GOING TO CHOKE THAT TALENTLESS FAT BAST*RD!! Thank you, and good night.
SoulGirl
ooh didn't see the freebird performace. it's a brave man would take that on and a rare man would pull it off. no guitar solo? tsk! however, the a capella arthur mccullen version from the movies 'duets' is amazing, in a very different way to the original! oh and btw the other bit of proof which shows they want a guyto win is that, except for nadia (who's now gone) and vonzell, the girls pretty much suck!! is that the best america can offer?? i don't think so! Hell, I might even audition for that one. y'know it wouldn't surprise me!! ot handed a flyer yesterday for a pornparty in a nightclub - strict dresscode of 'dirty slutty bitches' (the women) and 'pimps' (the men) and there's a porno being filmed on the couch while club goes on! could be my big break!! Eggplant
Ron Jeremy did host a competition to find the next great female porn star. I forget what it was called. It was sort of an American Idol type competition. Maybe it was called "Porn Idol" or something like that. It was just for the ladies though. We all know there's only one requirement for male porn stars, and yes "size does matter".

InsaneTim
Since when does singing kareoke make you talented? I've been playing fiddle for 6 years (which, not to sound cocky or anything, takes skill) and have never been on national TV. What a crazy, mixed-up world we live in. miamisammy29
Nobody ever said these people were "talented". It's just something you can't help watching...kind of like a train wreck.
SoulGirl
oh come on! of course some of them are talented. in fairness, just because they're singers doesn't mean they're not musicians. think of your favourite bands, would they have been half as good without their vocalist? and how many played instruments as well? ok so they don't have much integrity but at least some of them do have vocal talent, regardless of the forum in which they are performing. they are given a platform and they're using it, regardless of the fact that it basically boils down to karaoke. it'll pay off for at least one of them. not my cup of tea but not to be dismissed as talentless either! Well said, Soulgirl! If those who belittle the abilities of these talented youth honestly imagined themselves upon that stage with all the trappings and considered the honest evaluation based on what a video recording of their own effort at this event might look and sound like ... they might see past their prejudice and appreciate just how admirably these young people have dedicated themselves to a goal. Remember that to gifted singer, the voice IS an instrument.
Jenny
After hearing about the "rockers" that are competing this season and all the hoopla, I decided to watch last night. What a bad night I chose! If I want to hear bad singing, I can just listen to myself!! I don't think I'll be watching again.
InsaneTim
You're right SoulGirl, they're not "talentless". In fact when people ask me what made me decide to play the fiddle I respond "Because I can't sing". I still think the show is adding to the bad music of this unfortunate era, but some of them can belt out a tune.
