Aiden84
Hi guys, I'm new to this wonderful site and here's my first question: do you know any song that can be related to the theme of autumn, falling leaves and then: passing of time, autumn of life, sunset (I'm giving you all the keywords that come to my mind ). I'm a musician an I'm doin' a private research about this malinchonic kind of songs... I know, for example Autumn Leaves, also Autumn In New York (both of them are jazz standards) and I really like "Time" by the Pink Floyd, I really think that the lyrics really fit the concept. Thanks for any suggestion. Aiden.
DiggsUK
What about 'Forever Autumn' by the Moody Blues (or possibly just by the singer)? Regards
invisible_r
the first thing that came to mind is "california dreamin" because it talks about leaves being brown, but i guess it says "on a winters day" so it doesn't qualify as an autumn song. DiggsUK
Invisible, I went through the same thought process. Regards
Aiden84
Boundaries a re not so definited, thanks... "Forever Autumn" is timeless. It's the song that made me start to look for more! So thanks anyway, but... more ideas? Aiden.
DiggsUK
What about 'September Song' by Kurt Weill? It's about age as opposed to a season, but it is about the autumn of one's life. Wonderful song. Regards
invisible_r
well, if the boundaries are not that strict, "summers almost gone" by the doors
edna
"Leaves that are green" Simon and Garfunkel I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song. I?m twenty-two now but I won?t be for long Time hurries on. And the leaves that are green turn to brown, And they wither with the wind, And they crumble in your hand. Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl. I held her close, but she faded in the night Like a poem I meant to write. And the leaves that are green turn to brown, And they wither with the wind, And they crumble in your hand. I threw a pebble in a brook And watched the ripples run away And they never made a sound. And the leaves that are green turned to brown, And they wither with the wind, And they crumble in your hand. Hello, hello, hello, good-bye, Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye, That?s all there is. And the leaves that are green turned to brown, And they wither with the wind, And they crumble in your hand.
DiggsUK
Ok, what about 'Autumn Song' by Van 'the Irish mumbler' Morrison. I cheated here and Googled. I really must get back to work. Regards
DiggsUK
Edna, is that to the tune of 'New England' by Billy Bragg? Regards
edna
How funny, Diggs... I just checked and saw the lyrics of "New England" begin just as "leaves that are green"... I don´t know the song, but I guess it´s not the same tune, it doesn´t fit... S&G´s is from the early-mid 60´s... I liked Billy Bragg some time ago but I don´t know what he´s doing now... Foxy
What about 'Forever Autumn' by the Moody Blues (or possibly just by the singer)? Regards That was my first thought too Diggs! Is he called Justin Haywood or something simlilar? (Don't quote me on his name!) "Forever Autumn" is a great song. I'm at work at the mo and the only others I can think of are: "Autumn Goodbye" ~ Britney Spears :: "Autumn" ~ Barbra Streisand "Autumn In New York" ~ Franks Sinatra or Bille Holiday "Autumn Leaves" ~ Andy Williams "Autumn Song" ~ Van Morrison
Eggplant
U2 has a short little song called "October" that would fit in nicely with your theme.
Earth-Angel
I love this song! Chicane - Autumn tactics Deep river runs it's course To a warm horizon Shadows of falling leaves October moon and rusty skies Ever changing feelings The seeds of autumn in my mind Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Feels like its just begun Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Waiting for summer sun Hiding summer's age no more No more leaves in summer sky Turning dark on empty carlots When summer was my only friend Sail back this way again Winter's one breath away Sail back this way again Winter's one breath away It's turning cold... Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Feels like its just begun Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Waiting for summer sun Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Feels like its just begun Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Waiting for summer sun Hiding sun, like the hiding sun Feels like its just begun

Elvish
Hi, Aidan. When I read the "autumn of life" part of your question, I immediately thought of a couple of Grateful Dead songs. I'll give you excerpts: "Attics of My Life" In the attics of my life Full of cloudy dreams unreal Full of tastes no tongue can know And lights no eye can see When there was no ear to hear You sang to me I have spent my life Seeking all that's still unsung Bent my ear to hear the tune And closed my eyes to see When there were no strings to play You played to me "Broke Down Palace" River gonna take me Sing me sweet and sleepy Sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back back home It's a far gone lullaby sung many years ago Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come since I first left home

bluesboy
Also, one of the Granddaddy's of new age George Winston Autumn piano solos (1980 debut album) + Simon & Garfunkel's - the Dangling Conversation or Bobby Shew's - Here Comes That Rainy Day and Diggs mentioned Kurt Weill... Speak Low Claudio Roditi
Otokichi
How about "Songe de Autumn" which is/was confused with "Nearer, My God To Thee," one of the songs played by those bravest of musicians, The R.M.S. Titanic band? (Sometimes the song is referred to as "Autumn.")
Aiden84
Thank you for all your suggestions and help! If you have any more ideas, I'd be glad to read it here... I've found another jazz standard about autumn, related in a more positive way: it is "Early Autumn", good lyrics and awsome melody. Aiden.
