Farin
I got a mani/pedi yesterday and France v Uruguay was on the tv at the salon. I tried so hard to get into the spirit but all they seemed to do was mill around. Not much seemed to happen. I think I'll stick to competitive hot dog eating as my main sport of choice. that was a particularly bad/boring match, maybe England vs USA today will be better? Tenacious_Peaches
U S A! U S A! Wait, don't we suck?
Farin
well, I certainly won't dare to make such a judgement, but if you say so... but seriously, no, you don't maybe you won't win against England, but with the other teams in the group, Algeria and Slovenia, you have good chances... Tenacious_Peaches
We won't win but we don't suck. That's some high praise right there.
Farin
you have to think in terms of football (soccer, whatever) - the 1:1 draw against Mexico was a VERY good result for South Africa, eg and come to think of - you can even lose and NOT suck, if you play good. Just like Nigeria did today (they lost 1:0 against Argentina, who's one of the top favourites for the Cup)
Steel2Velvet
Somehow, the joy of social equality just does not translate that well to sports for many westerners. It is difficult to ask Americans to embrace the success interpreted by a tie score. Like the old sports axiom says, "A tie is like kissing your sister." BlueAngel
Well at least no draws so far today, so Americans can perhaps be not quite so bored. I was surprised Argentina wasn't more dominant, but I'm glad South Korea did well (2-0 against Greece), thanks in part to a certain Man United midfielder. But to the issue at hand: Eng vs USA 1-
phil
When does THE defending champion, Italy play? Do I have to watch all these second tier teams play first,( Argentina, USA, France, England, Germany Brazil, etc. etc.) Edited June 12, 2010 by Guest

Farin
What the hell...job opening for England: goalkeeper. the first thing the German commentator said: "Will this never end with England and their goalkeepers? " edit: PS, phil, Italy plays on Monday Edited June 12, 2010 by Guest
phil
That goal was softer than a 99 year old man on his honeymoon.
BlueAngel
Unfortunately there appears to be no end in sight; if not Green its either David James :shudder:, or the rather inexperienced Joe Hart.
BlueAngel
So 1-1, not a great result (for us) but certainly a very good game: lots of chances and pretty equal possession.
The Seeker
You can also win and STILL suck (Yeah, France, I'm looking RIGHT at you)

TheLizard
Well our goal was total bs, and ties are one of the many reasons Americans will never get into futbol, but the Brits next door got me drunk, so I'm happy all around.

Levis
Don't think Farin's going to be much of a comfort today. Good thing I'm not a real Australian.
BlueAngel
Not likely, Germany is taking them apart. I expected them to be strong but, wow, brilliant start. Poor Cahill though, that was a bit harsh.
Levis
Friend of mine says a sliding tackle from behind is a red card penalty. The only one in a sea of 'WTF?!?!?!'s. Germany is ruthless. Obviously the better team but my GOD they're brutal. Deserve to win, but I'm totes not supporting them for lack of friendly vibes.
