OLD 55
Thanks Ron, Lars and Joe. Joe, please don't forget to give us 5 'newies' soon. And they can be in support of others' nominations too. They're a real 'mixed bag' this week, and it'll be a real scramble to see which (and how many) new songs make the Chart. Lars, 'Bumble Bee' was a U.S. Pop Hit for Lavern Baker in 1960, so that's fine. Great novelty song. Ron, I gave your +2 points to Love Is Strange. That right ? OLD 55
Thanks Ron. Well, I'd say from the lack of response this time, the Top 40 is going...going.. Thank you to those who've tried to make it work. I know the era precludes some people, but I was trying to get something different going for those who appreciate the American Graffiti/Happy Days era. RonJonSurfer
I think it is a great idea. Look at that list of songs. Maybe we can solicit for more participation. Let's try to make it work.

OLD 55
I have been inviting people Ron. I think they dread getting PTs from me. Elena said to me 'I like the Top 40 and we should go on with it...' So we'll perservere. Thanks for voting Jeff - and for a laugh with the 'headings'. You know what that means though? Since I'm probably last to vote, I've supported all of y'all's "should be's" and not added any of my own. I will expect reciprocal responses next week .... I'm teasing ... sort of. Darryl just hang on a bit. I'm thinking back to a couple of years ago. You said something along the lines of "maybe this Top Ten idea isn't going to catch on. Maybe we should give it up." Remember? Good Lord, if the Top 40 is only a tiny bit as successful ... Don't be silly man, just hang on.
OLD 55
Thanks for voting and the words of encouragement Lucky. You're right; I did used to 'hound' people to vote in the Top Ten. PLEASE....IF YOU'D LIKE TO HELP CREATE THIS TOP 40. STILL OPEN !
Dappled
I like this top 40 too! It brings back memories! When I was a young lad Bill Haley and his Comets did a concert in my home town and I went there to hear it with my friends. They were great. The bass player was a really funny guy. We had lots of fun! Most of the guys who were there were what we call raggare.... ... and they told us to shut up when we were grooving too much! RonJonSurfer
When I was a kid (maybe age 12) I ordered a greatest rock hits set off a TV ad. I received this glorious set of 50's and early 60's classics. I still own it...sits in my recoed collection (yes I still listen to vinyl often). It was that collection that got me hooked on "Sea of Love"...what a song. When I listen to the soundtrack from American Graffiti I feel I'm listening to some of the greatest songs ever. Anybody who knows me or has seen my voting recoed on SF know I love classic rock and may even be stuck in a time warp. That's OK, it makes me happy. Keep it up O55!! OLD 55
Thanks for sharing those memories with us Lars and Ron. I think the lyrics of Yesterday Once More say it all for me. When I was young I'd listen to the radio Waitin' for my favorite songs When they played I'd sing along It made me smile. Those were such happy times And not so long ago How I wondered where they'd gone But they're back again Just like a long lost friend All the songs I loved so well. Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine. When they get to the part Where he's breakin' her heart It can really make me cry Just like before It's yesterday once more. Lookin' back on how it was In years gone by And the good times that I had Makes today seem rather sad So much has changed. It was songs of love that I would sing to then And I'd memorize each word Those old melodies Still sound so good to me As they melt the years away. Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine. All my best memories Come back clearly to me Some can even make me cry. Just like before It's yesterday once more.

cyberjudge
Well, it's time for another recap of the week's Top 40. Seems our mate from Down Under tapped me for a standing gig. So I'll be coming to you weekly from now on ... on great web sites like songfacts.com. So let's get started. Songs that dropped out this week were At The Hop by Danny & the Juniors, Take Good Care Of My Baby by Bobby Vee, Singing The Blues by Guy Mitchell, and despite a gallant if futile attempt to save it , Hound Dog by Elvis Presley. That gives us room for 4 new songs this week; starting at #40 with the 2nd song in the countdown from Chuck Berry, Maybelline. At #39 is the 1st entry for Johnny Cash, I Walk the Line. Entering at #38 is Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine) by the Penguins. And the highest debut of the week is the first female act from Motown on our chart, the Marvelettes, with Please Mr. Postman. The biggest movers in our countdown are: Shop Around by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles (40 to 26) and Love Is Strange (36 to 22) by Mickey & Sylvia, each up 14 notches Be-Bop-a-Lula by Gene Vincent & his Blue Caps (35 to 25) up 10 spots, and Summertime Blues (28 to 21) by Eddie Cochran and Sea of Love (22 to 15) by Phil Phillips & the Twilights, each up 7 slots. Only 1 new song in the Top 10 this week ... and it's a returnee after a 1 week absence, as Since I Don't Have You by the Skyliners slides back up from 11 to 10, replacing the former #1 (We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & his Comets. After 2 weeks in the penthouse, All I Have to Do Is Dream by the Everly Brothers drops from #1 to #4 this week, while another former #1, Del Shannon's Runaway holds steady at #3. Rebounding from #6 to #2 is Stand by Me by Ben E. King. And that gets us to a brand new #1 song. The new #1 on the Golden Oldies Top 40 is ... Travelin' Man by Ricky Nelson. That's all for this week. Again, my thanks to Darryl for letting me post the updates. Until next time, keep your head in the stars and keep reaching for the ground.
