OLD 55
Well I've totalled those votes and added them to the 'carry over' totals of the existing songs in the last Top 40. Remember, points for songs that were nominated last week but didn't make the Chart are NOT carried over. So we have to work harder to get those in. At this stage, only one new song is certain to make it. Don't forget we have to knock out some of those 'bottom dwellers' to make way for new ones. .................................................. My Wife and I have the chance to slip away for a few days from next Saturday, so I'll be closing off this Top Ten around 9.00 P.M. Friday (Melbourne Time, as shown at the top of the page when you click on 'forum index'). I'm making this Post around 4.10 P.M. Tuesday M.T. Also, I won't be 'chasing' people to vote this week. But I hope enough will vote to show that there is sufficient interest to warrant keeping the Top 40 going.

OLD 55
Thanks for voting bazooka, Dap, Lucky and cyber. I missed Shakin' All Over - thanks Jeff. I think we might let it stand though, because 4 people have voted for it and it'll be a nightmare to chase them up, as I don't have much spare time this week! Laurie, I'll leave your 5 points with 'Shakin' instead of 'Good Golly Miss Molly' (which most likely wouldn't make it this week anyway). My fault I should have noticed it sooner. Sorry. Lars my friend, I have Bonnie B on a 3 CD 'Killer' Anthology, but I doubt than many, other than you or I, would know it. Must have been a B side. A 'lost classic', but please give us another one instead.

cyberjudge
Welcome to this week's edition of Golden Oldies Top 40. I'm CJ sitting in for Old LV this week, with a recap of this week's countdown. And here we go. First, dropping off the chart this week are: El Paso by Marty Robbins, Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis Presley, The Battle Of New Orleans by Johnny Horton, My Prayer by the Platters, and after gallantly hanging on for 5 straight weeks in the bottom 6, Big Girls Don't Cry by the 4 Seasons. That gives us room for 5 new songs this week. Leading off our countdown at #40 is Eddie Cochran, with Summertime Blues. At #38 is Johnny Kidd and the Pirates with Shakin' All Over. At #37 is the debut of Chuck Berry on the GO-40 with Johnny B. Goode. And entering the cnart at #35 is Sea Cruise by Frankie Ford. That brings us to the highest debut of the week ... and it's also the highest debut on the 40 thus far, all the way at #13: Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes with Be My Baby. 3 songs this week take double digit leaps within the chart: The biggest jump is 14 slots (26 to 12) for Cathy's Clown by the Everly Brothers. And 2 songs move up 12 notches: Quarter to Three by Gary U.S. Bonds (30 to 18) and Baby It's You (20 to 8). There are 4 new songs entering the top 10 this week as well: Climbing from 14 to 10 are the Skyliners with Since I Don't Have You. Moving up from 13 to 9 is Up on the Roof by the Drifters. It's 1 of 2 songs with lead vocals by Ben E. King in the top 10 this week, along with King's solo hit, Stand by Me. Rocketing from 20 to 8 are the Shirelles, with Baby It's You. And going from 12 to 7 is Travelin' Man by Ricky Nelson. And after a 3 week run at #1, Del Shannon falls to #2 this week with Runaway ... and that means we have a new #1 on the Golden Oldies top 40 this week! The new #1 song this week is: All I Have to Do Is Dream, by the Everly Brothers. Well, that's all for this week. Darryl will be back next week when we count down a new Golden Oldies Top 40.
