  1. "Betty" by the Mad Caddies ("I woke up in a tub of ice, a note and no kidney") And Pam Tillis: "Betty's Got a Bass Boat"
  2. Sweet mother of God, I hope so....
  3. We twisted anxiously on 60 fathoms of chain, waiting for the sunrise and the Norwegian cruiser to depart its berth at St. Croix. The morning air was so heavy and still it seemed to press the water on the approach to Christianstaad into a fine sheet of crystal. A rolling fog dimmed the tiny lights of the harbor strand just stirring from a night of entertaining pale tourists. Half through the morning watch, smoking on the fantail, conversation was muted by the dense air. The water scarcely moved even as our 30 foot draft drifted about the anchor chain. Just before four bells, the first deep red glow of dawn played upon the eastern horizon. As the sun began its arch into the morning, it shared a stage with sea and atmosphere to delight the small crew of sailors in audience and produced the rarest phenomenon. Across the dark blue sky above our mast, a hazy crimson sunrise etched both the east and west horizons.
  4. That's that goofy stick figure from Canada? Wicked blues for a white boy. I saw him at the Heartbreak Hotel in Providence playing the middle set before Muddy Waters. The man just can't dance....
  5. So a clueless authority figure walks into a crowded room and makes an impassioned speech about woulda, coulda, shoulda, and a real upstanding citizen would come forward with the particulars so the world would be a better place for real upstanding citizens to live in? Nuts.
  6. Think of it this way: your soulmate and his intended will very likely not unite forever...and your soulmate in this life will most likely not be your soulmate in real life.... My soulmate is a plain, sagging middle aged cancer survivor who suffers from crushing depression. Hers is an amoral, job-obsessed functional alcoholic. We found each other just 4 years ago, well into our third lives. When one of us is gone, we both know the survivor will find another. A line from an old movie comes to mind: "You are not my first love. You are not my great love, but you are my last love."
  7. Nothing by "Little Feat" made the list, did it? So many fine tunes by the late Lowell George (my favorite was "Dixie Chicken") are wasted in obscurity....
  8. I'm sure that this will seem mundane...but you must project yourself into a long, harrowing existence.... I get off like New Years Eve on tomorrow's sunrise.
  9. Not like the last one when the days seemed like a north Alaska winter....
  10. Dire Straits: "Brothers in Arms" Nirvana: "Nevermind" Traffic: "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" Pretenders: "Learning to Crawl"
  11. "The Patriot," Mel Gibson's revolutionary war film based on his interpretation of Francis Marion, was a little simplistic, but generally accurate.
  12. "Anticipation"....Carly Simon, I think....
  13. the knack were the beatles? who in that esteemed ensemble was the walrus?
  14. I like Jimmy Buffett on more than one level. We spent a drunken night in Charleston in 1981, and we had dinner with my grandfather at Seaman's Cove in Moss Point in 1994. He's made a boatload of money working the record and promotion industry, but his performing life has by and large been as a minstrel pleasing small crowds for little more than change in the bottom of a guitar case. Parrotheads have always had crossover interest. In fact, to them there is no transition: beach music has always had a definitive country flavor. Small wonder that Jimmy's appeal has been embraced in Nashville.
  15. lou reed "stop your sobbing"
  16. I don't, why should she? For the record, the queen isn't paid in a conventional sense. Rather, she is kept in grand style. Much like the empire's mistress....
  17. In 92 I was on my way to Columbia, SC. Driving through Montgomery, I locked into the local classic station.I liked the jock and the tracks, and I gave him a call. When I asked for some Rush, he put me on the air. Rush was playing locally that night. My impromptu plug on the air parlayed into a backstage pass at the show. I was late arriving in Columbia, but it was worth it....
  18. david crosby john barleycorn
  19. BOC was always a pretentious band. Trying to elevate rock and roll (which everyone understands to be a musical characature) to some classical, erudite standard is the joke.
  20. spheres of influence have different orbits. the queen honors her subjects with audience, her subjects honor the queen with indulgence. she may be advanced and daft, but she is the queen. god save the queen....
  21. "Wake Up Little Susie," Everly Brothers cute tune with a message that applies even today...if you're from kansas....
  22. 30 years ago i was a senior in high school (good god, i should be dead by now) and on this day Average White Band picked up gold for "Pick Up the Pieces"
  23. Scope the "creative writing" thread right here and lift Jute's "delivering flowers." It's made to order.
  24. no to one, yes to two. problem?
  25. That is sweet and sad. And perfect. I sent it to the goddess and she cried those nourishing tears that tell me when something is truly superb. I wish I had your eyes.
