Sanjaya's preposterous coiffures are the least of the problem. The mere act of making a guest appearance on American Idol, let alone a purported duet with the transparently talentless Sanjaya, would necessarily entail a dramatic loss in whatever remains of Ozzy's tattered credibility. Might even constitute "the killer blow".

Sanjaya's performance of "You Really Got Me" was predictably lamentable and, let's face it, downright embarrassing. "You Really Got Me" is an all-time classic song, but it's also pretty easy for even the most moderately gifted vocalist to achieve a passable karaoke version of it, as evidenced every weekend in bars and pubs the length and breadth of the known world.

Sanjaya may be really nice, he may be unfeasibly cute. However, neither of those traits compensate for lack of (for starters...) musical talent, a decent singing voice, rock'n'roll instinct, "performance", sex, charisma, etc., and in such isolation, do not a worthy pop-star make. Doubtless, a combination of studio trickery to remedy his fey, unconvincing and unreliable voice and a sustained campaign of "astute marketing" will contrive to ensure that Sanjaya releases some (substandard and unremittingly dire) product and remains in the public consciousness for some unspecified period. (The length of time it takes his audience to grow pubic hairs?) After all, the public gets what the public deserves. However, his fan-base will inevitably be readily identifiable as "the brain-dead".
