RonJonSurfer
Love Upset With Cobain Dr. Martens Shoe Ad The campaign shows the Nirvana legend sitting on a cloud while wearing an angelic robe. Courtney Love is upset with footwear giants Dr. Martens for featuring her late husband Kurt Cobain in a recent advertisement. The campaign, which only appears in the U.K., shows the Nirvana legend sitting on a cloud while wearing an angelic robe - with the words 'Dr. Martens. Forever.' on the picture. But Love disapproves of the advertisement and has lashed out at the company. A spokesperson for Love says, "Courtney did not, and would not, approve of such a use of Kurt's name and likeness." Cobain killed himself with a shotgun at his Seattle, Washington home in 1994. The singer is not the only dead rock star featured in the campaign - Sid Vicious from The Sex Pistols and Joey Ramone from The Ramones also appear in separate ads. RonJonSurfer
Dr. Martens Apologizes to Courtney Love for Offensive Ad Kurt Cobain's widow was very upset with an ad that showed him sitting on a cloud wearing an angelic robe. The boss of footwear brand Dr. Martens has apologized to Courtney Love for featuring her late husband Kurt Cobain and other dead rockers in an advertisement. David Suddens is sorry for the campaign, which only appeared in the U.K. and showed the Nirvana legend sitting on a cloud wearing an angelic robe alongside the caption 'Dr. Martens. Forever.' He tells website People.com, "We do think that it is offensive. We made a mistake. My message to Courtney Love is this is something we shouldn't have been doing." Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Love said, "Courtney did not, and would not, approve of such a use of Kurt's name and likeness." Cobain killed himself at his Seattle, Washington home in 1994. Other late rock stars featured in the campaign included Sex Pistol Sid Vicious and Joey Ramone from The Ramones. Rayzor
I don't see what's wrong with it really. At least Curt is cast in a good light! They could have put devil horns on him and used the caption: "Dr. Martens is hot, hot, hot!"
TheLizard
You just don't use a dead person to endorse a product, especially someone who died before his time.
Rayzor
He only died before his time because of himself. It's not like it was a car wreck or something. He dictated his own time to go.
TheLizard
He's still dead, and it's still disrespectful to use his image for advertising purposes.
Otokichi
Unfortunately, nothing and no one is safe from the bottom line. (After all, Janis Joplin's bitingly satirical song, "Mercedes Benz" was used to sell Daimler's rides not too long ago.)
Rayzor
exactly, otokichi. Death doesn't stop the corporations from making money with your name. It's the curse of being famous.
Foolonthehill
I won't care if people put me in ads after I'm dead. I'll be dead anyways.
